When you tap and hold the Like button on LinkedIn, six faces appear. Most people pick one without thinking, and almost nobody knows what the spread actually looks like across the platform. This guide does two things no other reactions guide does: it tells you what each of the six reactions means and when people use them, and then it shows you the real distribution, measured across 1,022,217 posts and 163,111,424 reactions. That second part has never been published, because nobody else has the data.

The headline finding: out of every 100 reactions a post collects, about 81 are plain Likes. The other five faces split the remaining nineteen. The special reactions are rare, and that rarity is exactly what makes them worth reading.

How LinkedIn reactions break down: 81.4% Like, 8.6% Love, 4.2% Celebrate, 3.1% Insightful, 2.8% Support

TL;DR: Out of every 100 LinkedIn reactions, about 81 are plain Likes; Love is 8.6%, Celebrate 4.2%, Insightful 3.1% and Support 2.8% (163M reactions measured). The rare reactions are the signals: wins earn Celebrate, hard moments earn Support, analysis earns Insightful.

The six LinkedIn reactions, and what each one means

Start with the reference, because that is what most people came here for. LinkedIn offers six reactions. Press and hold Like on any post and you get the full set:

  • Like (the thumbs-up). The default. It means "I saw this and I am acknowledging it." It costs nothing and signals nothing specific, which is why it is the one everyone reaches for.

  • Celebrate (the clapping hands, sometimes shown as a trophy). Used for wins: a new job, a promotion, a launch, a milestone. It says "good for you."

  • Support (the heart-in-hands). The empathy reaction. People use it on hard news, vulnerable posts, and grief. It says "I am with you."

  • Love (the heart). Warmer than a Like, lighter than Support. It says "this moved me" or "I genuinely liked this," without the gravity of empathy.

  • Insightful (the lightbulb). The "I learned something" reaction. People reserve it for analysis, data, and ideas that changed how they think.

  • Funny (the laughing face). For posts that made someone laugh. The lightest reaction of the set.

Those are platform facts, not opinions: the six reactions are part of LinkedIn's product, and naming all six is just describing the button. What no product page tells you is how often each one actually gets used. That is where our data starts.

We counted reactions on 1,022,217 LinkedIn posts. Across all of them, those posts collected 163,111,424 reactions. Here is how that total splits across the faces we can separate:

Read that top row again. The Like is 81.4% of every reaction on LinkedIn. Four out of five times a post gets a reaction, it is the plain thumbs-up. Everything else, every Love, Celebrate, Insightful and Support combined, fits into the remaining 18.6%.

That is the single most useful fact about LinkedIn reactions, and it has an obvious consequence: the special reactions are rare, so they are signals. A Like is ambient noise, the polite minimum. A lightbulb is someone stopping to tell you they learned something. When you earn 30 Insightful reactions, that is 30 people doing something 96.9% of the platform did not do on that post. The scarce reactions carry the information.

The mix is not random. Different content pulls different faces, and the fixture is blunt about which. We grouped posts by content type and measured what share of each type's reactions came from each special face. The pattern is strong enough to read as a map.

A few things jump out, stated exactly as the data says them.

Support is the most concentrated reaction of all. On a Hard moment post, 18.8% of reactions are the heart-in-hands, far above its 2.8% platform-wide share. When someone writes about a layoff or a failure, the room responds with empathy, not thumbs-ups. No other content type comes close: next are Positive message at 4.1% and Challenges overcome at 3.8%.

Love and Celebrate both cluster around wins, but differently. Love peaks on Positive message (13.2%), Challenges overcome (12.9%) and Celebrating a win (12.2%): warm, uplifting content. Celebrate is narrower and more literal, topping out on Celebrating a win (11.0%) then Launch announcement and Situation recap (both 7.2%). Celebrate is the reaction for an explicit win; Love is the reaction for a feeling.

Insightful is the reaction for content that teaches, and it is scarce. Even its best categories barely clear 6%: Quick tip at 6.8%, Company saga at 5.8%, Explainer / analysis at 5.7%. If your posts never earn the lightbulb, the data says something simple: you are not publishing the analytical, idea-dense content that produces it. (Content type drives engagement more than people admit; we measured how much in LinkedIn post types and engagement.)

What this means for creators

Reactions are a mirror. The face your audience taps tells you what kind of creator they think you are, and the mix is more honest than any follower count.

Run the logic on yourself. Almost all plain Likes with no Love means you are acknowledged but not moving anyone: informative, not warm. No Insightful at all means you are not publishing analysis, because the lightbulb only comes from ideas that taught someone something. Support showing up means your audience trusts you with hard things, which is rare and usually means you have been honest in public. Celebrate dominating means you are mostly posting wins, which is fine until it is all you post.

The move is not to chase a particular reaction. It is to check whether the mix matches who you want to be. A consultant who never earns Insightful has a content problem, not a reactions problem. The reactions are downstream of the content, so the fix is always upstream.

And do not over-read a single Like. At 81.4% of everything, the thumbs-up is the platform's reflex, the cost-of-entry tap. The reactions that mean something are the ones 95-plus percent of readers did not give. (Comments carry signal too, and behave differently; we measured that in how many comments is good on LinkedIn.)

Where this data comes from

Everything on this page is MagicPost's own research. The distribution is measured on 1,022,217 LinkedIn posts carrying 163,111,424 total reactions, reshares and excluded posts filtered out, deleted posts removed. The counting method is straightforward and worth stating plainly: the reaction count on a post is the total of every reaction it received. Within that total, Love, Celebrate, Insightful and Support are the four named special reactions we can separate cleanly in our data, so we report each as a share of the total (each named count divided by total reactions, to one decimal). The Like share is then the remainder: 100% minus those four shares, which works out to 81.4%. One honest limit: Funny is a real LinkedIn reaction, but it is not separable in our data, so it is not broken out here; whatever Funny reactions exist are folded into the totals rather than reported on their own. The content breakdown groups posts by content type and reports, for each type, what fraction of its reactions came from each special face, anonymized and aggregated. What are the LinkedIn reactions?

LinkedIn has six reactions, reachable by pressing and holding the Like button: Like (thumbs-up), Celebrate (clapping hands), Support (heart-in-hands), Love (heart), Insightful (lightbulb), and Funny (laughing face). Like is the default acknowledgement; Celebrate marks wins; Support shows empathy; Love signals warmth; Insightful means "I learned something"; Funny is for posts that made someone laugh. In our own data we can cleanly separate four of those special reactions (Love, Celebrate, Insightful, Support); Funny is folded into the totals rather than reported on its own.

What is the most common reaction on LinkedIn?

By a wide margin, the plain Like (thumbs-up). Across 1,022,217 posts and 163,111,424 reactions, the Like accounts for 81.4% of all reactions. The four special reactions we separate are all rare by comparison: Love at 8.6%, Celebrate at 4.2%, Insightful at 3.1% and Support at 2.8%. Four out of every five reactions on LinkedIn are the default thumbs-up.

What does the Insightful reaction mean on LinkedIn?

Insightful is the lightbulb reaction, and people use it to say "this taught me something." It is genuinely scarce: just 3.1% of all reactions platform-wide. The content that earns it most is analytical and idea-dense: Quick tip posts (6.8% of their reactions are Insightful), Company saga (5.8%) and Explainer / analysis (5.7%). If your posts never earn Insightful, it usually means you are not publishing analytical content, because that is the only kind that reliably produces the lightbulb.

What does the Support reaction mean on LinkedIn?

Support is the heart-in-hands, the empathy reaction. It is the most concentrated reaction of all: only 2.8% of reactions platform-wide, but on a Hard moment post it jumps to 18.8% of all reactions. People reach for Support on vulnerable, difficult, or painful content, where a thumbs-up would feel wrong. If your posts draw Support, your audience trusts you with hard things.

Do LinkedIn reactions matter more than Likes?

They carry different information. A Like is the platform reflex, 81.4% of all reactions, so it tells you a post was acknowledged but little else. The special reactions are rare, and that rarity makes them signals: a Love means your content moved someone, an Insightful means it taught them something, a Support means they trust you. The most useful thing reactions tell a creator is what kind of content they are actually publishing, because the reaction mix is a mirror of the content type.
