LinkedIn is packed with advice from so-called gurus about what to post, what to avoid, and what supposedly drives engagement.
But when it comes down to it, you need to figure out, what makes you stand out and show off your personality.
And the best way to do that is by testing out different types of content, building your own strategy, and experimenting with different types of posts to see what resonates with your followers.
I want to share some of the approaches I’ve found that really work, especially those that tap into the latest LinkedIn trends.
Let me walk you through them.
TL;DR: To make your LinkedIn posts stand out, focus on understanding your audience. Experiment with various content types, such as engaging videos, podcast insights, and carousel posts. Always start with a hook and regularly analyze post performance metrics like engagement and impressions.
Understanding Your LinkedIn Audience
The first and most crucial step that will shape your content as you grow is dedicating time and effort to truly understanding what your audience wants and needs.
To do that, you need to clearly define your target audience.
Identify Your Target Audience
Your target audience is that specific group of people you want to reach and connect with.
And to effectively engage them, start by creating a detailed persona that reflects their demographics, psychographics, and buying behaviors.
Understanding their pain points will allow you to craft posts that address their challenges and resonate with their interests.
Determine the tone and content style that will appeal best to them, and make it a priority to stay in touch with their needs and preferences through regular interaction on LinkedIn.
This ongoing communication is key to building and maintaining a strong connection with your potential clients.
What to post to make your LinkedIn posts stand out
But let’s get to the point—when you scroll through LinkedIn, you'll notice that some posts generate tons of impressions and engagements.
This is usually because the people behind those posts know their audience inside and out, and they’ve fine-tuned their content to what works best.
If you're just starting out or simply want to know what types of posts are really effective, I've got you covered.
Here’s what we’re seeing in 2024 that’s driving the most impact, and it’s important that you, too, adapt it to your strategy to generate more valuable leads.
Advantages of LinkedIn's Video Feed
Let's start with videos or reels on LinkedIn.
It's quickly becoming a major trend and more and more content creators are shifting their text-based posts into short and engaging videos with subtitles.
These videos are usually brief—around 30 to 90 seconds—and LinkedIn is giving them a significant boost in reach, especially now that the platform has introduced a video feed similar to Instagram Reels or TikTok.
The difference? On LinkedIn, the content has a more professional edge.
So, if you want to make your content more trend-forward and reach a broader audience, I’d recommend giving these a try first.
Turn Podcasts into LinkedIn Posts
One effective way to create content without starting from scratch is by turning insights from a podcast, YouTube video, or another source into LinkedIn posts.
You can do this by extracting key ideas and writing them into posts yourself, or you can use tools like MagicPost, a LinkedIn-specific content generator.
With tools like this, you simply input a link, and it generates a post for you based on the video content.
This allows you to repurpose valuable insights and share them with your LinkedIn audience in a fresh, engaging way.
Highlight your audience's solutions to problems
This point ties back to the importance of truly understanding your audience before you start creating content.
Posts that address specific challenges faced by your audience tend to have the most impact on LinkedIn, generating higher engagement, impressions, and responses.
The key is to take the time to identify your audience's pain points and then craft posts that directly address these issues, showing how your product or service can provide a solution.
You can be creative with this approach by developing various types of posts.
For example, you could share a story about how you've helped a client overcome a particular challenge, explain what problems your product solves, or discuss advice you’ve given to someone facing these issues.
You might also create posts that showcase before-and-after statistics, demonstrating how your solution has positively impacted a client.
Remember, these posts should always center around your audience.
The focus here should be on their needs and how your solution can bring them relief, ensuring that they feel understood and supported.
Start with an eye-catching hook
This brings me to my next point.
The importance of starting each post or video with a hook.
Because a good hook is what makes people stop and pay attention to your content.
Crafting that first line—what you might call the "stop scroll" moment—can be just as important, if not more so, than the rest of your post.
The hook needs to be captivating, concise, and speak directly to your audience.
There are countless ways to create a strong hook.
It could be something that directly addresses a problem your audience is facing, a bold statement, or an intriguing question.
The key is to make it impactful enough that your audience can't help but stop and read more.
Additionally, it's a good idea to preview your post before publishing to see how your hook looks in the feed.
Many free tools are available for this purpose, or you can use platforms like MagicPost that will not only help you generate captivating hooks but also come with built-in preview features.
This allows you to ensure that your hook isn't too long or too short and creates the desired impact on your audience.
Share information through carousels
Finally, as you can see, LinkedIn is becoming increasingly visual.
While written posts are still important, visual content is gaining more traction.
Beyond videos, carousel posts are also highly effective.
They allow you to present the same idea across multiple slides, making your content more dynamic, concise, and visually engaging.
Instead of overwhelming your audience with a wall of text, carousels break information into digestible chunks, making your posts more interactive and enjoyable.
The key is your creativity.
Carousels come in various styles—some are highly polished, while others are simple but impactful.
Explore what other creators are doing and add your unique touch.
Learning about carousels can seem at first very time-consuming, but once you find the template or style that matches your tone, it will become easier and easier.
Share motivational posts
Lastly, a more traditional but still very effective post on LinkedIn is sharing a motivational post.
These resonate emotionally with your audience, and as we know, emotional content has always had a stronger impact than plain text.
On one side, you can start by drawing inspiration from other creators by sharing important themes or personal insights, complemented by a compelling visual or a powerful motivational quote.
Or on the other side, you can create them yourself, based on something you’ve read, seen, or learned from your own professional experiences and time spent on LinkedIn.
Additionally, consider sharing or reposting a motivational quote from a well-known LinkedIn creator that inspires you.
But make sure to always add your own personal touch or perspective to the quote.
This approach not only shows that you're engaged with influential content creators but also adds extra value to your readers by offering them your unique perspective and creating new conversations.
Analyze The Impact of Your LinkedIn Posts
Moreover, once you’ve published your posts and experimented with different types and strategies, it’s crucial to analyze their performance and refine your approach.
To do this effectively, monitor the analytics provided by LinkedIn or any external tools you use.
The key metrics to track are engagement, impressions, and especially the growth in your follower count.
Additionally, if you're aiming to generate leads from your posts, evaluate which types of content have been most successful.
Use this insight to create more content similar to what has performed well.
Also, don’t be afraid to repurpose successful content.
Repeating effective posts can build trust and reinforce your expertise, as people usually appreciate posts that they have already seen before, since they provide them with confidence on the subject.
Schedule Your Content Strategically
Don’t forget that if you want to start seeing results, you need to maintain a consistent posting schedule and manage your content effectively.
And for that, there’s nothing better than dedicating time to planning and scheduling your posts in advance.
By doing so, you can ensure a steady flow of content without the daily stress of coming up with new ideas. And trust me, I know what I am talking about 😵💫.
Use scheduling tools, such as Notion and MagicPost, to prepare and schedule your posts in advance.
This will allow you to focus on engaging with others and responding to comments.
This strategic approach helps avoid one of the common pitfalls for beginners: the struggle to post regularly.
Track Impressions and Engagement
Monitoring the performance of your posts is crucial for refining your strategy.
As I mentioned, the two major metrics you should focus on are impressions and engagement.
On one side, impressions show how many profiles have seen your post, indicating its reach. Higher impressions mean more people have come across your content.
Engagement, on the other hand, measures how many people interacted with your post through likes, comments, or shares.
For instance, if your post has received a lot of likes but not so many comments, it could be that the content is interesting but doesn't drive comments, so you should probably take a look at adding or improving your CTAs.
In general, to boost engagement, experiment with different content formats and call-to-actions (CTAs) to see what resonates best with your audience.
Keep an eye on these metrics to understand what works and adjust your content strategy accordingly.
Adjust Your Strategy Based on Analytics
To wrap things up, remember that gathering data is not just for the sake of collecting numbers, it's essential for refining your strategy.
If you start with a particular approach and find it’s not working as expected, that's okay.
The initial phase is all about experimenting and discovering what works best for you and what resonates most with your audience.
Use the insights from your analytics to gradually adjust your strategy.
Aim to create content that not only adds value to your audience but also aligns with what you enjoy and feel passionate about.
By continuously analyzing your performance and adapting accordingly, you'll refine your approach and enhance your overall impact on LinkedIn.
