How to exclude people and companies from lead detection

The MagicPost exclusion list holds the people and companies that lead detection ignores, such as your clients, colleagues, competitors or partners who engage with your posts. MagicPost leaves them out before the AI scoring, so detection never turns them into leads and they never spend a Leads credit. You manage the list in the Exclusions panel, opened from the Leads page with the Exclusions button. The exclusion list is open to every account with the Leads module, which is included in the Growth, Creator, Agency und Team plans and in the free trial. In an organization, the member needs a seat that includes Leads.

The MagicPost exclusion list only acts on the Leads module. An excluded person or company still appears in Engagement. The MagicPost Leads page presents the module as a whole.

Open the Exclusions panel

  1. In MagicPost, open Leads, on the Leads tab.

  2. Click Exclusions, at the right of the toolbar, next to the three-dot More actions button. The Exclusions panel opens on the right, over your leads.

On a phone, the MagicPost Leads toolbar has no Exclusions button. Open the three-dot More actions menu and click Manage exclusions instead.

The MagicPost Leads page no longer has an Exclusions tab. An old link to that tab, or to /leads/exclusions, opens the Exclusions panel on the Leads page instead.

  1. In the MagicPost Exclusions panel, type at least two characters in Exclude a person or company….

  2. Find the person or the company in the results.

  3. Click Exclude on that result. The entry joins the list and a confirmation message appears, without an Undo button.

The search of the MagicPost Exclusions panel shows three groups of results:

  • Already in your list: the entries of your exclusion list that match.

  • Companies: the companies where your leads work, with the number of your leads who work there, then other companies MagicPost knows on LinkedIn, with their number of employees when it is known.

  • People: your leads first, then LinkedIn profiles.

The MagicPost search looks up LinkedIn companies and profiles from three characters. A company that MagicPost does not know on LinkedIn, and where none of your leads work, does not appear. To exclude such a company, import a CSV file with the link to its LinkedIn company page, as described below.

A company with more than 5,000 employees asks for a confirmation in the result itself: MagicPost warns that none of its employees will be detected anymore, including anyone you may be prospecting. Click Exclude the whole company to confirm, or Cancel.

When the MagicPost exclusion list is empty, the panel can suggest your own company, based on your LinkedIn profile, and, in an Agency organization, your agency. Click Exclude to add a suggestion, or the cross, Don't suggest again, to dismiss it.

Import a CSV file

  1. In the MagicPost Exclusions panel, click Import a CSV, on the same line as the search field.

  2. Drop your file, or click Browse.

  3. Check the Detected profiles list.

  4. Pick a reason with the Reason selector, or keep No reason. The reason applies to the whole file.

  5. Click the Exclude button at the bottom of the panel. It shows the number of profiles and companies to add, such as Exclude 12 profiles.

The tooltip of the Import a CSV button in MagicPost reads LinkedIn profile or company page URLs. When a search of the panel finds nothing, the button leaves the search line, and the No results for message, followed by your search, offers its own Import a CSV button.

The MagicPost CSV import reads only two kinds of links: LinkedIn profile links (linkedin.com/in/…) and LinkedIn company page links (linkedin.com/company/…). The rest of the file is ignored, including names, websites, email addresses and Sales Navigator links. A file can have up to 5,000 rows and weigh up to 2 MB. Excel files are refused: save the file as a CSV first.

A LinkedIn company page link with a number instead of a name (linkedin.com/company/12345) works only when MagicPost already knows that company. Otherwise MagicPost ignores the row: use the link with the company name instead (linkedin.com/company/name).

When a CSV file has several columns of LinkedIn links, MagicPost reads only one of them. Pick it in URLs read from the column.

Once MagicPost has read a CSV file, it shows Detected profiles with their number: the profiles and company pages that the import will add. The list starts with 10 rows. See more shows the rest of the preview, and a last line such as And 250 more counts the rows beyond it. A profile that MagicPost does not know yet shows its LinkedIn link instead of a name.

The MagicPost CSV import does not list the rows it leaves out: rows without a usable LinkedIn link, repeated links, and entries already in your list. They are not counted in Detected profiles or in the Exclude button.

A company with more than 5,000 employees in a MagicPost CSV file waits for your choice: Exclude the whole company or Don't exclude. Without a choice, the company is not excluded.

After a MagicPost CSV import, a profile that MagicPost did not know yet shows Fetching name…. Its name appears a few minutes later. A link that leads to no profile shows Profile not found on LinkedIn.

Exclude from a lead or from a post

MagicPost lets you exclude someone from the place where you find them. There is no confirmation step, and the confirmation message has no Undo button: to take an exclusion back, remove the entry from the list, as described below. Only a company that MagicPost knows to have more than 5,000 employees asks for a confirmation first.

  • From the table of leads: in the table view of the Leads tab, click the three-dot button, More actions, at the end of the row, then Exclude from leads. Its tooltip reads This lead will disappear from your list and won't be detected anymore. The row leaves the table at once. This menu excludes the person only, never their company.

  • From a lead card: click Exclude from detection at the bottom of the card, or open More actions on a phone. Choose Exclude followed by the name of the person, or Exclude the whole company followed by the name of the company.

  • From a selection of leads: in the table view of the Leads tab, tick the leads, click Exclude in the selection bar, then choose to exclude the people or their companies.

  • From the engagers of a post: in the Engagers tab of a post, open the three-dot menu of a person and click Exclude from detection, or Exclude the whole company followed by the name of the company.

In the Engagers tab of a post in MagicPost Leads, an excluded person appears only under the Excluded filter chip. From the three-dot menu, Remove from exclusions removes a person, when you are allowed to remove that entry. For a person excluded through their company, View in list opens the Exclusions panel with the name of the company already in the search.

What happens to the leads you already have

When a new MagicPost exclusion matches leads you already have, MagicPost hides those leads. A hidden lead is not deleted. It leaves your lists, your counts and your CSV exports, and it is no longer sent to your connected tools. Its notes, status and messages are kept. Removing the exclusion brings the lead back with its history.

MagicPost does not refund the Leads credits already spent on a lead you exclude afterwards.

A lead you add by hand in MagicPost is never hidden by the exclusion list: your choice wins. When you add a person who is on the list, MagicPost keeps the lead and shows This profile is on your exclusion list., with a Remove from list button when you are allowed to remove that entry. When the person is covered through their company, MagicPost names the company and shows a View in list button, which opens the Exclusions panel with the company in the search. A company exclusion is never removed from that message.

If you open a hidden lead in MagicPost from a direct link, its card shows Excluded from detection. For a lead excluded as a person, the card has a Remove from exclusions button, shown only when you are allowed to remove that entry. For a lead excluded through their company, the card names the company and has a View in list button, which opens the Exclusions panel with the company in the search. The company is removed from the panel, not from the card of one of its employees.

How MagicPost matches a person or a company

A person exclusion in MagicPost targets one LinkedIn profile. A company exclusion targets everyone whose current company, on the LinkedIn profile MagicPost has for them, is that company. It covers future engagers too, but not the people who worked there before and have moved on.

MagicPost has to read the profile of a person to know their current company. A company exclusion therefore stops the AI scoring and the credit, not the reading of the profile.

Manage the list

The MagicPost Exclusions panel has two tabs, People and Companies, each with its count. The panel opens on People, unless your list holds only companies. Each tab is a table with three columns: Company or Person, Reason and Added on. The entries you added since you opened the panel come first, marked New.

To change the reason of a MagicPost exclusion, click the reason in its cell, or Reason on an entry without one. Pick Irrelevant, Client, Colleague, Competitor, Partner or Friend. Other reason… lets you type your own, up to 40 characters, and No reason clears it. The change is saved at once. An older entry can still show Acquaintance, a reason MagicPost no longer offers.

The three-dot menu of a row in the MagicPost Exclusions panel shows who added the entry and when, and whether it came from a CSV import. It also shows how many likes or comments were excluded since the entry was added.

To remove an entry from the MagicPost exclusion list, open the three-dot menu of its row and click Remove from the list. A message with an Undo button appears. The removal is final once that message closes, or when you close the panel. The person or the company can then be detected again, and the leads hidden by that entry come back.

A MagicPost exclusion list holds up to 20,000 entries. Past that limit, MagicPost shows Your exclusion list is full.

In a Team organization

In a MagicPost Team organization, each member has two exclusion lists: one shared with the whole team, and one for them alone. A selector at the top of the Exclusions panel switches between The whole team and Only me, with the number of entries of each list. The whole team is selected by default.

In a MagicPost Team organization, the search adds to the list selected at the top of the panel. Already in your list covers both lists and says which one holds the entry: Excluded for the team or Excluded for you. A result already in the other list shows Also exclude for the team or Also exclude for you, which adds it to the list selected in the panel. The CSV import has its own list selector, set to the list selected in the panel. For an admin of the team searching the team list, Companies also covers the companies where the leads of the other members work. An exclusion made from a row of the leads table, a lead card, a selection or an engager goes to the team list.

Every member of a MagicPost Team organization can add entries to the team list and change their reason. Only an admin of the team can remove any entry from the team list. A member who is not an admin can remove a team-list entry only if they added it themselves, within 15 minutes of adding it. After that, Remove from the list stays visible but disabled, with Only a team admin can remove it. Each member manages their own Only me list. A team-list entry applies to the detections of every member and hides the matching leads of every member.

The organization Leads page of the MagicPost admin view has no exclusion action. See how to use Leads as a team.

In an Agency organization and the client space

A MagicPost Agency organization has no list shared across its accounts. Each client account has its own exclusion list. To manage it, switch to the client's account, open its Leads page and click Exclusions in the toolbar.

A client of a MagicPost agency can also see that list from the client space, when the agency turned on the Leads module for them. In the Leads module of the client space, the Exclusions button opens the Your exclusions panel. Its third column, Added by, shows You for the entries the client added and the name of the agency for the others.

With an Approval or an Editing link, a client of a MagicPost agency can search, import a CSV, change a reason, remove entries, and exclude a lead from its card or from the three-dot menu of its row in the table. With a Simple link, the Your exclusions panel is read-only: no search, no import, no removal.

FAQ

Where is the Exclusions tab of the Leads page?

The MagicPost Leads page no longer has an Exclusions tab. In the Leads tab, click the Exclusions button at the right of the toolbar: the Exclusions panel holds the same list. On a phone, open the three-dot More actions menu and click Manage exclusions.

How do I undo an exclusion I just added?

Remove the entry from the list: the confirmation message of a MagicPost exclusion has no Undo button. Open the Exclusions panel, find the entry, open the three-dot menu of its row and click Remove from the list. That removal message has its own Undo button. In a Team organization, a member who is not an admin can remove a team-list entry only within 15 minutes of adding it.

What is the difference between Delete and Exclude from leads?

Delete removes the lead and its notes from MagicPost, and the person can be detected again if they engage with your posts. Exclude from leads hides the lead and keeps its notes, and the person is not detected anymore. The Delete this lead? confirmation of a row offers both at once with Delete + Exclude, next to Cancel and Delete.

Why can't the search find a company I want to exclude?

Because the MagicPost search finds the companies where your leads work and the companies MagicPost already knows on LinkedIn, not every company. For a company it does not find, click Import a CSV and import a file with the link to its LinkedIn company page, with the company name in it (linkedin.com/company/name).

Can I exclude a company by its website, an email address or its name in a CSV file?

No. The MagicPost CSV import reads only LinkedIn profile links and LinkedIn company page links. Websites, email addresses, names and Sales Navigator links are ignored. Add a column with the LinkedIn links, then import the file again.

Do I get my credits back when I exclude a lead?

No. MagicPost does not refund the Leads credits already spent on a lead. The exclusion list saves credits on the next detections: an excluded person or company is never scored again.

Why can't I remove an entry from my team's list?

Because only an admin of a MagicPost Team organization can remove an entry from the team list. A member who is not an admin can remove only an entry they added themselves, within 15 minutes of adding it. Any member can add entries and change their reason. Ask an admin of your team to remove it.

Does an excluded person disappear from Engagement?

No. The MagicPost exclusion list only acts on lead detection and the Leads module. The person still appears in Engagement.
