Wie verwende ich den Ideen-Generator?

The MagicPost idea generator produces LinkedIn post ideas from a source you choose: a topic, a file, a URL, a persona or one of your own published posts. You pin the ideas you like, then send one to the post generator. The idea generator is included in Creator, Agency und Team, and in the free trial. The idea generator is not included in the Growth plan.

In a MagicPost organization on the Agency plan, access to the idea generator also depends on the seat type. A member on a Growth, Analytics or Engagement seat does not have the idea generator: see everything in the Agency plan.

To open the idea generator, click Ideas in the MagicPost sidebar, under Discover. The My ideas page has three tabs: Idea generator, Pinned ideas and Notebook. MagicPost presents the feature on the LinkedIn post ideas page.

How to generate ideas

  1. On the Idea generator tab of MagicPost, choose a source under Generation mode: Topic, File, URL, Persona or My posts.

  2. Add or select the source, for example a topic you saved.

  3. Optional: pick an Idea type.

  4. Click Generate ideas.

MagicPost sends the source you selected and the Idea type you picked to the AI, then shows a batch of ideas under Generated ideas. Generating again creates a new version, and the version counter above the ideas lets you go back to earlier batches.

The five sources

  • Topic: a subject you write with Add a topic. Analyze my profile suggests topics based on your profile.

  • File: a document you upload. MagicPost accepts PDF, DOCX, TXT, MD and CSV files, and images. The upload area shows the maximum file size.

  • URL: a link you add with Add a URL. MagicPost reads blog posts and web pages, YouTube videos, LinkedIn posts and Substack newsletters. Some content is incompatible.

  • Persona: a description of your audience, added with Add a persona.

  • My posts: one of your published posts, to get ideas in the same vein. The list selects one post at a time: choosing another post replaces the first one.

With the File and URL sources, the MagicPost idea generator shows an instruction field once a source is selected. Use the field to tell the AI what to focus on in the document or the page.

Advanced settings

The Advanced settings of the MagicPost idea generator contain three options: Analyze my post history, Use my AI context information and Idea language. The AI context is the information about you stored in MagicPost: see how to use the knowledge base.

What you can do with an idea

  • Pin this idea: the pin icon saves the idea in Pinned ideas.

  • Develop the idea: the AI adds key points under the idea.

  • Use the idea: MagicPost opens the post generator with the idea, and its key points if you developed it, as the subject.

  • Edit idea and Mark as used: in the three-dot menu of the idea.

Pinned ideas

The Pinned ideas tab of MagicPost keeps every idea you pinned, and the ideas you wrote yourself. On a desktop screen, two icons switch between a kanban board and a grid of cards. In the kanban board, Group by: sorts the columns by Status, Type, Source, Date or Label.

The filters above your pinned ideas in MagicPost depend on the view. In the grid of cards, three filters, All my ideas, Not used and Used, sit next to the Source and Categories filters, plus a Labels filter once you have labels. The same three filters appear in the kanban board when the board is not grouped by Status.

The kanban board grouped by Status is the default view of Pinned ideas in MagicPost. In that view, the columns List, Priority and Used replace the three filters. In the kanban board, Source, Categories and Labels are behind the filter icon. Search for an idea is available in both views.

The status columns of the MagicPost kanban board can be changed. With the board grouped by Status, open Group by: and click Manage columns to rename, add, reorder or delete columns. List and Used cannot be deleted, and Used always stays last. The number of columns is limited: the New column field disappears once the board is full. The ideas of a deleted column move to the first remaining column, which MagicPost names before you confirm.

Clicking a pinned idea in MagicPost opens its detail, with Generate a post with this idea, Develop the idea, Duplicate and Delete. The kanban board and the grid of cards have no multiple selection: each action applies to one pinned idea at a time.

Labels on ideas

MagicPost ideas use the same labels as your posts and templates. You can put one or several labels on an idea from three places:

  • in the kanban board of Pinned ideas, the Labels entry of the three-dot menu of an idea;
  • in the detail of a pinned idea, which opens when you click the idea in the kanban board or the grid of cards, Add a label under the category;
  • in the Notebook, Add a label under the title of the open idea.

Each of them opens Choose or create a label…: tick an existing label, or type a new name, press Enter and pick a color under Choose a color. A label created from an idea is available for your posts too, the same as a label created from a post: see how to manage your posts. Deleting a label removes it from every post and idea of the account.

In the MagicPost Notebook, the labels of an idea also show in the list, after its status: the first two by name, then the number of the others.

In the MagicPost kanban board, until you have a label, Label is greyed out in Group by:. In the kanban board grouped by Label, an idea with several labels appears in each of their columns.

Add your own idea

The New idea button at the top of the MagicPost My ideas page opens the Notebook tab on a blank idea. Writing down an idea does not use an idea generation.

In the MagicPost kanban board grouped by Status, the Write down an idea card at the bottom of each column also saves an idea you wrote, in that column. You type the idea, choose an Idea type and an Idea category, then click Pin this idea. The idea is added to the Notebook too.

Ideas can also come from MagicPost Inspirations: on a post of the library, Turn into ideas generates ideas from that post. See how to find content inspiration.

Notebook

The Notebook tab of MagicPost My ideas lists the ideas you wrote yourself: with New idea, with Write down an idea, or on the calendar. It also lists the ideas proposed through a share link, shown with a name. Generated ideas you pinned are not in the Notebook. A Notebook idea has a title, a free text and attachments, and MagicPost saves it as you type.

In the MagicPost Notebook, Use the idea opens the post generator with the title and the text of the idea. Develop the idea adds key points at the end of the text, and Undo removes them. The list has a search field, one filter per status column, and a Hide used ideas switch behind the display settings icon.

Attach a file, or a file dropped on the idea, adds an attachment to a MagicPost Notebook idea: PDF, DOCX, TXT or MD documents, JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC images, and M4A, MP3 or WAV audio files.

With Use the idea in the MagicPost Notebook, the AI also reads the text of the PDF, DOCX, TXT and MD attachments. A document that is too large to read stays attached, but the AI does not read it: MagicPost shows "The file … could not be read" and uses the idea without it. Images and audio files are not sent to the AI. The number of files per idea is limited, and the idea says so once it is full.

MagicPost Notebook ideas also appear in Pinned ideas. It is the same idea in both tabs, so an edit in one shows in the other. Ideas noted on the calendar are explained in how to use the calendar.

How idea generations are counted

MagicPost counts idea generations, not individual ideas: one click on Generate ideas is one generation. During the free trial, the number of idea generations is limited, and the remaining count is shown next to Generation mode.

When an account has used all its idea generations, MagicPost shows Idea generation limit reached. The pricing grid lists no limit on idea generation for the plans that include the idea generator.

FAQ

Why does MagicPost show "Higher plan required" next to Generation mode?

Your account cannot generate ideas. Idea generation is included in Creator, Agency und Team, and in the free trial. A free account whose trial has ended sees Higher plan required, and Generate ideas opens an upgrade window.

Which plans include the idea generator?

The MagicPost idea generator is included in Creator, Agency und Team, and in the free trial. The Growth plan does not include the idea generator. On the Growth plan, the Discover group of the MagicPost sidebar is folded by default: click Discover to see the Ideas entry, which shows a lock. The page then asks you to upgrade. See everything in the Growth plan.

In a MagicPost organization on the Agency plan, a member on a Growth, Analytics or Engagement seat does not have the idea generator. A subscriber of a former plan will find what that plan includes in the article about the Analytics and Starter plans.

Where do my pinned ideas go?

Pinned ideas are in the Pinned ideas tab of the MagicPost My ideas page. The tab shows a badge with the number of pinned ideas.

Why does an idea I wrote appear in both Notebook and Pinned ideas?

Because it is one idea shown in two tabs. The MagicPost Notebook lists the ideas you wrote yourself, and Pinned ideas lists every saved idea, generated or written. Editing or deleting the idea in one tab changes it in the other.

Does generating ideas use post credits?

No. MagicPost counts idea generations separately from post generations. Sending an idea to the post generator and generating the post is a post generation.
