Comment mentionner quelqu'un dans un post MagicPost sur LinkedIn ?

To mention a person or a company in a MagicPost post, type @ followed by the name in the editor, then pick the profile in the list. MagicPost publishes the mention as a LinkedIn tag. Mentions are part of the MagicPost editor, included in the Growth, Creator, Agency et Team plans and in the free trial. On Agency, a member on an Engagement seat has no access to the MagicPost post editor.

LinkedIn does not let MagicPost tag every profile. When a profile cannot be tagged, MagicPost warns you before publication and refuses to schedule or publish the post until the mention is removed.

Mention a profile in a post

  1. In the MagicPost editor, place the cursor where the mention goes and type @. MagicPost first lists the profiles you mentioned recently.

  2. Type the name. MagicPost searches the LinkedIn profiles and company pages it already knows and adds the results to the list, people first, then companies.

  3. Click the right profile. MagicPost inserts the name in your text as a mention.

MagicPost mentions work for people and for company pages. You can type a name without its accents: MagicPost still finds the profile.

The MagicPost mention search by name does not query LinkedIn live. It covers the LinkedIn profiles and company pages MagicPost already knows. A profile MagicPost does not know yet is not found by name: tag it with its URL.

Mention a profile with its URL

The MagicPost search by name only finds the profiles and company pages MagicPost already knows. For any other profile, tag it with the address of its LinkedIn page: MagicPost then looks up that page.

  1. Type @ and at least one letter in the MagicPost editor.

  2. Click Tag a profile with its URL, at the bottom of the list.

  3. Paste the LinkedIn URL of the profile or of the company page.

  4. Click Mention.

MagicPost accepts LinkedIn addresses only. For another address, MagicPost answers "Please enter a valid LinkedIn URL (e.g., https://linkedin.com/in/username)". If LinkedIn does not return the profile, MagicPost answers "Profile not found or inaccessible on LinkedIn."

When a profile cannot be tagged

To tag a person, MagicPost needs an identifier that only LinkedIn provides, and LinkedIn does not provide it for every profile. MagicPost cannot tag such a person, even when the profile is visible on LinkedIn and even when you tag the profile with its URL. This limit concerns people, not company pages.

When a MagicPost post contains a mention LinkedIn does not let MagicPost tag, the editor shows a red Non-taggable mention label at the top right of the post. Hover the label to read which person is concerned. The label tells you to edit the post and remove the mention.

The mention list of the MagicPost post editor does not flag such a profile before you pick it. The Non-taggable mention label appears on the post once the mention is inserted and the post is saved.

MagicPost shows the same warning on the post in Posts and in Calendar, as long as the post is not published.

MagicPost refuses to schedule or publish a post that contains a mention LinkedIn cannot tag. The MagicPost error names the profile: "Unable to tag [name]: this profile's LinkedIn settings prevent external apps from mentioning it." To fix the post, remove the mention, or write the name as plain text without @.

MagicPost can tag a person who has connected their own LinkedIn account to MagicPost, because that connection gives MagicPost the identifier. This helps for a teammate or a client who uses MagicPost, not for an outside contact.

MagicPost checks a non-taggable profile again on its own every few days. When LinkedIn starts returning the profile, MagicPost removes the Non-taggable mention label and accepts the mention.

If a scheduled post fails for this reason, MagicPost gives the error the label Mention to fix. See why did my post fail to publish.

Mentions in comments and in the signature

MagicPost mentions also work in scheduled comments: type @ in the comment field to tag a profile. Scheduled comments are included in the Creator, Agency et Team plans. See how to schedule comments on my posts.

In the mention list of a comment, MagicPost flags the profiles that will not work. Can't be tagged marks a profile LinkedIn does not let MagicPost tag. Mentions disabled marks a person who does not accept mentions on LinkedIn: LinkedIn rejects any comment that tags them.

The Signature of the MagicPost generator accepts mentions too. Its field reads "Type @ to mention a profile." The MagicPost generator is included in the Creator, Agency et Team plans.

Mentions and AI edits

When you select a passage that contains a mention and run an AI action on it, MagicPost warns: "The AI action will remove the selected mention." Add the mention again after the AI edit if you still need it. AI edits in MagicPost are included in the Creator, Agency et Team plans.

FAQ

Can I mention a company page in a MagicPost post?

Yes. MagicPost mentions work for people and for company pages. Type @ and the company name, or use Tag a profile with its URL with the address of the LinkedIn page.

Why can't I tag a specific person?

LinkedIn does not give MagicPost the identifier needed to tag that person. MagicPost says so when you schedule or publish the post: "Unable to tag [name]: this profile's LinkedIn settings prevent external apps from mentioning it." Your MagicPost plan and your own LinkedIn account do not change this. Write the name as plain text, without @.

The person has a public LinkedIn profile. Why can't MagicPost tag them?

A profile you can open on LinkedIn can still be refused to MagicPost. MagicPost tags a person through LinkedIn, and LinkedIn does not return every profile to an external app. Tagging the profile with its URL in MagicPost does not change the result.

Can a person MagicPost cannot tag become taggable later?

Yes, in two cases. MagicPost checks non-taggable profiles again on its own every few days, so a profile LinkedIn starts returning becomes taggable with no action from you. A person who connects their own LinkedIn account to MagicPost also becomes taggable.

Why does MagicPost refuse to schedule my post because of a mention?

The post contains a mention LinkedIn cannot tag. MagicPost blocks the post at scheduling and at publication, and names the profile in the error. Remove that mention or turn it into plain text, then schedule again.

The search does not find the profile I want. What can I do?

Use the URL. The MagicPost search by name covers only the LinkedIn profiles and company pages MagicPost already knows, so a profile can be missing from the results. In the MagicPost mention list, click Tag a profile with its URL, paste the LinkedIn address of the profile and click Mention.

Does MagicPost remember the profiles I mention?

Yes. When you type @, MagicPost lists the profiles you mentioned recently before any search result. You can pick them again without typing the full name.
