Por que meu post não foi publicado? Status, erros e correções

When MagicPost cannot publish a post on LinkedIn, the post is not deleted. The post keeps its text and its media, and MagicPost records the reason for the failure on the post. MagicPost does not retry a failed post on its own: you fix the cause, then publish or schedule the post again. Publishing from MagicPost is included in Growth, Creator, Agency e Team, and in the free trial.

The four statuses of a MagicPost post

MagicPost shows the status of each post in the Status column of the Posts page.

  • Draft: the post is saved in MagicPost and nothing is sent to LinkedIn.

  • Scheduled: the post has a date and a time, and MagicPost publishes it at that time.

  • Publishing...: MagicPost is sending the post to LinkedIn. With a media file, MagicPost uploads the file, then waits for LinkedIn to process it.

  • Published: the post is live on LinkedIn.

How MagicPost shows that a post failed

  • A red warning triangle on the post. MagicPost puts the triangle on the status of the post in the Posts page, and on the card of the post in the calendar. Hover over the triangle to read the reason.

  • A red label in the editor. When you open the failed post, MagicPost shows a red label at the top right of the editor, for example Reconnection required. Hover over the label to read the full message.

  • An email. MagicPost emails the account when a post fails to publish, with the reason. MagicPost sends this email once per post: if the same post fails again after you reschedule it, the account gets no new email, and the red triangle on the post reports the new failure. In an agency organization, MagicPost also emails the super admins of the organization when the post of a member fails.

MagicPost shows the same red triangle before any publishing attempt when a post contains a mention that LinkedIn cannot tag. In that case, the red label in the editor reads Non-taggable mention.

Where to find a scheduled post that failed

A scheduled post that failed stays in MagicPost with its red triangle. On the Posts page, MagicPost first lists the failed post under Scheduled, and the post stays at its date on the calendar. Once the scheduled time is well in the past, MagicPost lists the failed post under Drafts and takes it off the calendar. The tab does not depend on the cause of the failure.

The All tab of the Posts page shows the failed post in both cases. If the failed post is no longer on the MagicPost calendar, it is listed under Drafts. When MagicPost was open at the moment of the failure, the Posts page can show the failed post as a draft right away, until you reload the page.

How to publish a failed post again

  1. Open the failed post from the Posts page or from the calendar.

  2. Read the red label at the top right of the editor, then fix the cause. The labels are listed in the next section.

  3. Pick a new date and time and click Schedule post, or click Publish now to publish right away. On a post that is still scheduled, these two buttons read Edit schedule and Publish.

Scheduling or publishing the post again clears the error in MagicPost. You can also clear the error yourself with the cross on the red label. Clearing the error does not publish the post: a failed post only goes out when you schedule it or publish it again.

The error labels in MagicPost and what to do

  • Reconnection required: the LinkedIn connection of the account has expired or was revoked, or the connected LinkedIn account is not the one shown in MagicPost. Reconnect LinkedIn from Settings, in the LinkedIn tab, then publish the post again. See how to renew your LinkedIn connection.

  • LinkedIn permissions: LinkedIn refused the post because the connected account lacks a permission. Reconnect LinkedIn, then publish the post again.

  • Mention to fix: LinkedIn cannot tag one of the profiles mentioned in the post. Remove or change the mention, then publish the post again.

  • Content rejected: LinkedIn refused the content of the post. Check the text and the link, then publish the post again.

  • Media to replace: MagicPost could not read the file or send it to LinkedIn. Upload the media again, then publish the post again.

  • Media not processed: LinkedIn did not manage to process the media this time. The file is not necessarily the problem. Publish the post again a few minutes later, and try another file only if the error comes back.

  • LinkedIn unavailable: LinkedIn has a technical problem on its side. Publish the post again a few minutes later.

  • Post not found: the post no longer exists in MagicPost. It may have been deleted.

  • Post limit reached: the LinkedIn profile has reached the number of posts that MagicPost lets it publish over a rolling period. MagicPost set this limit itself and did not send the post to LinkedIn. Schedule the post again for another time.

  • Publication error: the failure has no known cause. Publish the post again, and contact support if the error comes back. The MagicPost team is notified automatically for this label.

The failure email from MagicPost gives a more precise reason than the label. For example, the email says when a post has no text, when LinkedIn refused an article link, or when a post mixes images, a video and a document.

On a company page, a MagicPost post also fails when the connected LinkedIn profile is no longer an administrator of the page. The failure email says so when the post carries a media file. For a text-only post, the email reports missing LinkedIn permissions instead. Reconnecting LinkedIn and uploading the media again do not fix this case: a super admin of the page has to give the role back on LinkedIn.

If a MagicPost post with media keeps failing on a company page after you upload the file again, check the administrator role of the connected profile first.

When many media files fail at LinkedIn at the same moment, MagicPost treats the failure as a LinkedIn incident. The message MagicPost shows on screen when the post fails then asks you to try again later and states that the MagicPost team is already following the incident. MagicPost has no error label for this case: the post keeps the Media not processed label.

Messages MagicPost shows when you schedule a post

MagicPost can also refuse to schedule a post, before any publishing attempt. The message appears as soon as you click the scheduling button. The post limit message also appears when you click Publish now.

  • "Your connection to LinkedIn expires on [date], before the chosen date. Renew it to schedule beyond that." LinkedIn limits how long a connection stays valid, and the post is scheduled after that limit. Renew the connection, then schedule the post: see how to renew your LinkedIn connection.

  • "You can schedule a post up to a year in advance. Choose a date no later than [date]." The date you chose is more than one year ahead. Renewing the LinkedIn connection does not help here, because a connection never stays valid for more than a year. Pick a date up to the day the message states.

  • "This post is being published. Wait for the attempt to finish before rescheduling it." MagicPost is sending the post to LinkedIn at that moment. Wait for the result, then schedule the post again if it failed.

  • "LinkedIn is temporarily unavailable. Try again in a moment." The LinkedIn connection of the account is fine and LinkedIn is not answering. Schedule the post again a little later.

  • "Limit reached: this LinkedIn profile can't publish more than [number] posts per 24 hours. Pick another time slot or try again later." MagicPost limits how many posts one LinkedIn profile or company page publishes over a rolling period. The limit depends on the account, and the message states the limit and the period. Pick a later time slot, or try again later.

  • "The post is too long": the post exceeds the LinkedIn character limit, which the message states. Shorten the post with Edit post.

  • "Unable to tag [name]": the LinkedIn settings of one of the profiles mentioned in the post prevent external apps from mentioning it, and MagicPost refuses the schedule. Remove the mention, then schedule the post again.

  • "Couldn't schedule the post": MagicPost shows this general message for a refusal that has no message of its own. Try again, and contact support if the message comes back.

A scheduled post that stays on the calendar with no error

MagicPost does not publish a scheduled post while its Approve later switch is on. The post sits on the calendar at its date and stays there after the time has passed, with no error.

MagicPost sends a reminder email before the scheduled time when a scheduled post is still not approved. Outside Approval mode, the reminder goes to the account that owns the post. In Approval mode, the reminder goes to the administrator who manages the seat, or else to the owner of the organization.

In a MagicPost organization with Approval mode on, the same switch reads Approve post and works the other way round: MagicPost publishes a scheduled post only once that switch is on. A scheduled post that is not approved stays on the calendar after its time, with no error.

With Approve later, MagicPost marks a post waiting for approval in two places. In the Posts page, a clock icon sits on the Scheduled status. In the calendar, the card of the post carries a check button named Approve post. Approve the post before its scheduled time, either with that button or by turning off Approve later in the scheduling panel.

In Approval mode, MagicPost marks a post waiting for approval with a grey check, on the status in the Posts page and on the card in the calendar. That grey check is not a button. The post is approved by turning on the Approve post switch in the scheduling panel of the post.

If the scheduled time of a MagicPost post has already passed, approve the post and pick a new date and time. See how to schedule a LinkedIn post.

Failed comments and failed reposts

A scheduled comment that LinkedIn refuses gets a Failed badge in MagicPost, with the reason under it. Fix the comment and schedule it again: see how to schedule comments on your posts.

A repost that was scheduled for a few hours later can fail on its own, without affecting the original post. MagicPost then shows Automatic repost failed on the Repost button of the published post. See how to recycle a LinkedIn post.

FAQ

My scheduled post is no longer on the MagicPost calendar. Was it deleted?

No. MagicPost does not delete a post that failed to publish. Open the Posts page and look under Drafts for the post with a red warning triangle. Open it to read the reason, then schedule or publish it again.

Does MagicPost retry a failed post automatically?

No. MagicPost makes no new attempt on a post marked as failed. The post goes out only when you pick a new date and time, or when you click the publish button yourself.

Does MagicPost have to stay open for a scheduled post to be published?

No. MagicPost publishes scheduled posts from its servers, so the app can be closed. One case differs: when you click Publish now on a post that has comments set to Immediately, your browser sends those comments once the post is live. Keep the MagicPost tab open for a few seconds after the success message, because your browser sends the comments right after that message.

I changed my time zone in MagicPost. Did my scheduled posts move?

No. MagicPost stores the exact moment of each scheduled post. Changing the time zone changes the hour displayed in MagicPost, and the post is still published at the same moment.

I reconnected LinkedIn and my post still fails on a company page. Why?

The connected LinkedIn profile has probably lost its administrator role on the page. MagicPost cannot restore that role, and reconnecting does not change it. A super admin of the page gives the role back on LinkedIn, then you publish the post again. See how to publish on a company page.

I unscheduled a post. Where is it?

The post is in the Drafts tab of the Posts page, with its content intact. Unscheduling a post in MagicPost removes its date and never deletes the post.
