Why didn't my post publish? Statuses, errors, and fixes
A scheduled post that never went out, a post that "disappeared" from the calendar, a red triangle on a draft: this article explains how MagicPost publishes, what each failure looks like, and exactly what to do in each case.
How a post's life looks
A post moves through four statuses, visible in My posts and on the calendar:
Draft: being written, nothing sent anywhere.
Scheduled: it has a date and time, and will be published automatically. Green means published on the calendar; a scheduled post shows the color of its post type.
Publishing...: the upload to LinkedIn is running. Text posts take seconds; a video or document can take a minute or two, because LinkedIn validates the media on its side.
Published: live on LinkedIn, with a direct link on the post.
The one behavior to know: a failed post goes back to Drafts
When a scheduled post fails to publish, MagicPost returns it to your drafts. It leaves the calendar, which is why it can look like it disappeared. It did not: open My posts → Drafts, and it is there, marked with a red warning triangle.
To retry:
Open the post. A red banner at the top of the editor names the error.
Fix the cause (see below), then click the cross on the banner to clear the error.
Publish now, or schedule it again.
If a scheduled post fails while you are not in the app, MagicPost also sends you an email so the failure does not go unnoticed.
The errors, and their fixes
"Your LinkedIn session has expired. Please sign in again."
LinkedIn connections expire periodically: this is LinkedIn's security model, not a bug. Reconnect from Settings → LinkedIn, then republish. If you schedule posts ahead, a valid connection at publish time is what counts: when MagicPost tells you to reconnect, do it before your next slot.
Media error: "The media could not be validated by LinkedIn."
LinkedIn refused the file. Check the format and size in the editor, or try publishing the post without that media to confirm the media is the cause. If a red dot appears on the media thumbnail before publishing, MagicPost has pre-checked it for you: Retry the test after replacing the file.
Mention errors: "… can't be tagged (LinkedIn API limitation)."
LinkedIn does not let apps tag every profile; some privacy settings block it. MagicPost warns you before publishing with a Non-taggable mention banner. Either remove the mention (it will publish as plain text), or ask the person to connect their own LinkedIn to MagicPost, which makes them taggable.
"Publishing took too long. Try again."
Usually a heavy media on a slow moment. Retry; if it repeats, re-export the media in a lighter format.
Anything else
Retry once. If it fails again, come to the chat with the post and the time: we can see the exact cause on our side.
Scheduled posts: three rules that avoid surprises
Keep LinkedIn connected. A post scheduled while connected still fails at publish time if the connection has expired since. If you saw a "reconnect" prompt anywhere in the app, treat it as urgent when posts are queued.
The scheduled time is absolute. Changing your timezone in settings re-displays your schedule in the new timezone; it does not move the actual publication moment.
Keep the tab open only if you want the live confirmation. Scheduled publishing happens on our servers: the app does not need to be open. One nuance: comments set to publish "immediately" with the post are sent by your browser, so publishing right now with immediate comments works best with the tab left open until done. Scheduled comments with a delay are server-side and safe either way.
Editing or deleting a published post
Edit: open the post → Edit the published post. The change applies directly on LinkedIn. Text only: media, polls and link previews cannot be changed after publication (a LinkedIn API limit). Need different media? Publish a corrected post instead: duplicate as draft, fix, republish, delete the original.
Delete from LinkedIn: open the post's stats panel → Delete, and type the confirmation word. This removes it from LinkedIn and MagicPost, and saves a backup draft of the text.
Careful: the regular delete in My posts only removes the post from MagicPost. The app warns you when this is the case: a post deleted there is still live on LinkedIn.
FAQ
My scheduled post disappeared from the calendar.
It almost certainly failed and went back to Drafts: look for the red triangle in My posts, open it, and the banner tells you why. The fix-and-retry steps are above.
My scheduled post published, but a mention became plain text.
That profile could not be tagged (privacy settings, or not taggable through the API). MagicPost flags non-taggable mentions before publishing; when one slips through, the post still goes out with the name as plain text rather than failing entirely.
Can I move a scheduled post to another day?
Yes: drag it to another day on the calendar (the time is kept), or open it and edit the schedule. A published post cannot be moved.
I canceled a scheduled post. Where is it?
In your drafts, intact. Unscheduling never deletes content.
Does deleting a post in MagicPost delete it on LinkedIn?
Not by itself. The regular delete only cleans up MagicPost, and the app shows a warning saying exactly that. Deleting from LinkedIn is a separate, explicit action in the post's stats panel, with a typed confirmation.
