How to add a poll to a LinkedIn post

Polls are one of the formats LinkedIn's feed still loves: a question, two to four answers, and every vote counts as engagement. MagicPost creates, schedules and publishes them like any other post.

Create the poll

  1. Write your post in the editor: the text above the poll is what earns the click, so treat it as a real post, not a caption.

  2. In the editor footer, open the poll option.

  3. Fill it in:

- The question: up to 140 characters.

- The options: between 2 and 4, up to 30 characters each. Short options get read; long ones get skipped.

- The duration: 1 day, 3 days, 1 week (the default), or 2 weeks.

  1. The editor shows a preview of the poll exactly as LinkedIn will render it.

Then publish now or schedule it like any post.

The one rule: a poll or media, never both

LinkedIn does not allow a poll and an image (or video, or document) on the same post. If you add media to a post that has a poll, MagicPost warns you: your poll will be lost. Decide which one carries the post before you build it.

After publishing

Votes, results and voter identities live on LinkedIn: open the post there to see who voted what. Results are visible to you as the author; voters see the percentages once they have voted.

Like every published post, the poll post's reach and engagement show up in your metrics. One thing you cannot do: edit the poll after publishing. Post-publication edits only cover the text: question, options and duration are frozen once live. Re-read them before you hit publish.

What makes a poll worth publishing

  • Ask something people have an opinion on, not a quiz. "Which do you struggle with most?" beats "What year was LinkedIn founded?"

  • Make the options mutually exclusive and cover the honest answers: an "Other, tell me in comments" fourth option turns voters into commenters.

  • Come back when it closes. The follow-up post ("500 of you answered, and the results surprised me") is often stronger than the poll itself, and it recycles the engagement into reach. The poll's duration is a deadline for your own follow-up.

FAQ

Can I generate the poll question with the AI?

The AI generates and edits the post's text; the poll (question and options) is yours to write in the poll form. Short and opinionated works best.

Can I schedule a poll?

Yes: a post with a poll schedules exactly like any other post, scheduled comments included.

Can I change the options after the poll is live?

No. LinkedIn freezes a live poll: only the post's text can still be edited. If an option has a typo that matters, delete the post and republish quickly, before votes accumulate.

Where do I see the poll results in MagicPost?

The post's standard metrics (impressions, reactions, comments) are in your dashboard. The vote breakdown itself is on LinkedIn: open the post from MagicPost to jump straight to it.

Why did my poll disappear when I added an image?

That is the LinkedIn rule above: a post carries a poll or media, never both. MagicPost warns you before it happens; if you confirmed, re-create the poll after removing the media.
