How to add a poll to a LinkedIn post
|In MagicPost, you add a poll to a LinkedIn post with the Poll button of the editor toolbar, then schedule or publish the post like any other. A poll has one question, two to four options and a duration. Polls are part of the MagicPost editor, included in the Growth, Creator, Agency, and Team plans and in the free trial. On Agency, a member on an Engagement seat has no access to the MagicPost editor.
A MagicPost post carries a poll or a media, never both. A poll cannot be added to a repost, and it cannot be changed once the post is published.
Create the poll
Write your post in the MagicPost editor. The post must exist before it can carry a poll: on an empty editor, MagicPost answers "Your post doesn't have enough content yet."
Click Poll, the bar chart icon in the toolbar under the post text. MagicPost opens the Create a poll window.
Fill in Question, then Option 1 and Option 2. These three fields are required.
Click Add an option to add a third and a fourth option. A poll holds four options at most.
Choose the Poll duration: 1 day, 3 days, 1 week or 2 weeks. MagicPost selects 1 week by default.
Click Save.

Limits of a poll
MagicPost applies the limits LinkedIn sets on polls:
The question holds up to 140 characters. The MagicPost form shows a counter under the field.
Each option holds up to 30 characters, with its own counter.
A poll has between two and four options, and two options cannot have the same text. MagicPost keeps Save disabled until the question and the first two options are filled in, and as long as two options are identical.
The MagicPost poll form also carries a reminder from LinkedIn: "LinkedIn doesn't allow requests for political opinions, medical information or other sensitive data."
Edit or delete the poll before publishing
On a draft or a scheduled post, the MagicPost editor shows two buttons at the top right of the poll. The pencil runs Edit the poll and reopens the form. The cross runs Delete the poll, after a confirmation.
When you duplicate a MagicPost post that has a poll with Duplicate as draft, MagicPost copies the poll into the new draft.
A poll or a media, never both
A MagicPost post carries a poll or a media, never both. As soon as a post has a poll, the Add media button of the editor is disabled. As soon as a post has an image, a video or a PDF, the Poll button is disabled.
To switch, remove what the post carries first. Delete the poll to add a media, or delete the media to add a poll. See adding media to a post.
After publication
MagicPost cannot change a poll that is live on LinkedIn. The Poll button is disabled on a published post, and editing a published post from MagicPost changes its text only. Reread the question, the options and the duration before you publish.
MagicPost does not show who voted. To see the voters, open the post on LinkedIn.

FAQ
Can I schedule a post with a poll?
Yes. A MagicPost post with a poll is scheduled and published like any other post. The poll starts on LinkedIn when the post is published, for the duration you chose.
Why is the Poll button greyed out?
The MagicPost Poll button is disabled in three cases: the post already has a media, the post is a repost, or the post is already published. The Poll button is also inactive while an AI edit is running on the post.
Can I add an image to a post that has a poll?
No. A MagicPost post carries a poll or a media, never both. The Add media button stays disabled as long as the post has a poll. Delete the poll first if the image matters more.
Can I change the options once the poll is live?
No. MagicPost cannot change the question, the options or the duration of a published poll. If an option is wrong, the only fix is to delete the post and publish a new one.
Can the AI write the poll for me?
No. The MagicPost poll form has no AI assistance: you type the question and the options yourself. The AI tools of MagicPost work on the text of the post.
Why can't I save my poll?
A required field is empty, or two options are identical. MagicPost needs a question and at least two different options. With two identical options, Save stays disabled in the MagicPost poll form. MagicPost shows no message: change one of the options.
