The short answer

Pick Buffer if you publish to several networks and want one queue for all of them. It costs less per channel, and that gap is real. Pick MagicPost if you run LinkedIn for clients. One subscription covers what Buffer leaves to other tools: writing in each client's voice, approval without a client account, LinkedIn benchmarks, engagement on other people's posts, and leads.

What is Buffer?

Buffer is a social media scheduling tool that has been around since 2010. You connect channels (LinkedIn profiles and pages, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X, Threads, Bluesky, YouTube and more), write once, and queue the post to each of them.

Around the queue sit an ideas board, an AI Assistant for drafting and rewording, analytics per channel with exportable reports, and a Community inbox to answer comments.

For teams it adds approval steps and per-channel permissions, and it bills per channel rather than per person.

How does Buffer work?

  1. Connect your channels

Each LinkedIn profile or company page is a channel, next to your other networks. In the setup Buffer documents for agencies, everything you connect lands in one organization, with one queue per channel.

  2. Draft and queue

You write in the composer, adjust the text per network, add an image, a video or a PDF carousel, and drop the post into the queue at a set time or in the next free slot. You can @mention people, within Buffer's limits: connections only, profile in English, one LinkedIn channel at a time.

  3. Get it approved

With approvals switched on, staff draft and request approval; whoever signs off reviews, edits and moves the post to the queue. That person needs a Buffer user account with posting rights on the channel.

  4. Report on it

Insights gathers impressions, engagement and follower change per channel, exports to PDF or CSV, and can add the client's logo and a cover page to a report.

What sets MagicPost apart from Buffer

Buffer is a generalist, and the cheaper one: a LinkedIn profile is one channel among many. MagicPost is the LinkedIn specialist, built for agencies, and it replaces the tools a Buffer setup needs around it.

  • A workspace per client

In the setup Buffer documents for agencies, every client channel shares one organization, one queue each.

In MagicPost, each client gets a separate workspace, with its own AI settings, writing voice, post history and calendar.

You switch clients from the account menu and nothing leaks from one to the next. A single dashboard shows what is going out across all of them.

  • Approval from a link, no client account

Buffer's approval step runs between Buffer users: your staff request, and the client signs off from a Buffer account with posting rights on the channel.

MagicPost sends the client a link. They read the post, approve it, hold it or leave a comment, with no account to create. With edit access they can also change the text, the media and the date. Nothing publishes until they say yes.

  • Built for LinkedIn, all the way down

Buffer's AI Assistant drafts and rewords a post for any network with preset tones. Its reply suggestions learn your style; its post drafts do not.

MagicPost writes from the client's own posts, in their voice, scores each draft, and passes it through the Humanizer.

@mentions of anyone go out as real tags, connections or not, with no extension. MagicPost keeps working after publication: your scheduled comments on other people's posts go out on time, results are checked against LinkedIn benchmarks, and the people who reacted show up as leads, tracked automatically and exportable to CSV or your CRM. Reports carry the logo and colour you choose across the whole document, header, curves and cards included.

Where Buffer is the better pick

  • Buffer covers the other social networks from the same queue. If LinkedIn is one channel among several you post to, MagicPost does not replace it.
  • Buffer bills per channel, not per person: once your plan allows collaborators, the tenth teammate costs the same as the first. And you can start without paying.
  • Buffer's MCP server and public API are open on every account, and its Community inbox gathers comments from all your networks in one place.
