How can I generate a LinkedIn post from a URL?
|MagicPost can generate a LinkedIn post from a URL: paste the link in the URL source of the generator, and MagicPost reads the content and writes a post from it. Generation from a URL is included in Creator, Agency, and Team and in the free trial. The Growth plan does not include AI post generation.

MagicPost warns in the same place that some content is incompatible. For a YouTube video, MagicPost works from the subtitles of the video when they exist, and from a transcription of the audio when they do not.
Generate a post from a URL
In the MagicPost sidebar, click New post, then select the Generator tab.
Choose the mode. In Standard, choose a Post type and a Post category. In Templates, choose a template.
Select the URL source, next to Topic and File.
Paste the full URL, starting with http:// or https://. When you click in the field, a Recently used list shows the last URLs you generated a post from.
Optional: fill in Instruction for the AI to say what the post should focus on.
Open Settings to check the tone, emojis, length and language, then click Generate a post.
Shortly after you paste a URL, the MagicPost generator replaces the field with a card that shows the title of the page and its domain. The card has a button to open the page in a new tab and a cross to remove the URL. The card and the Instruction for the AI field only appear for a full URL that starts with http:// or https://.
While MagicPost reads the page, the editor shows Analyzing the URL.... The text of the post appears once the content has been read. A YouTube video without subtitles has to be transcribed first, which takes longer. A long YouTube video without subtitles can be refused as too heavy: MagicPost then shows an error asking for another URL.
Steer the post with an instruction
The Instruction for the AI field of the URL source is optional. Left empty, MagicPost analyzes the whole content and picks an angle itself. With an instruction, the post follows the angle you give. The generator suggests examples such as "Focus on the part about X", "Take the opposite view of the article" or "Skip the intro, keep the method".
The instruction of the URL source only applies to the post being generated. For writing rules that apply to every generation in Standard mode, use specific instructions.
What stays the same as with a topic
A post generated from a URL in MagicPost uses the same settings as a post generated from a topic: your writing style, the Settings section, your knowledge base and the advanced options. FAQ
The generator shows an error when I generate from my URL. What can I do?
MagicPost could not read the content of that page. MagicPost shows no error when you paste the URL: the error appears after you click Generate a post, while MagicPost reads the page. Some content is incompatible with the URL source of the generator. Try once more, and if the page still cannot be read, copy its key points and generate the post from the Topic source instead.
Can I generate several posts from the same URL?
Yes. Select the URL again from the Recently used list and change the instruction each time, for example one post per idea of the article. A URL that MagicPost has already read is processed faster.
Does generating from a URL work with a template?
Yes. In Templates mode, the URL source is available and the content read from the URL follows the structure of the selected template. See how to generate a post from a template.
Can I generate a post from a PDF or a recording that is not online?
