How to reset my password or change my email address
You can reset a forgotten MagicPost password from the login page. You can also change your MagicPost password or email address yourself, in Settings, under the Security tab. Both options are open to free and paid MagicPost accounts. On an account created with Google, the two Security cards are disabled, because that account logs in through Google.
Reset a forgotten MagicPost password
Open the MagicPost login page and click Forgot your password?
Enter the email address of your MagicPost account and click Send reset link. MagicPost answers "If an account exists for this email address, a password reset email has just been sent."
Open the email and follow the link. On the Reset my password page, fill in New password: and Confirm password:, then click Reset.
MagicPost shows "Your password has been updated." and sends you back to the login page. Log in with the new password.
The MagicPost reset link works for a limited time. MagicPost checks the link when you click Reset, not when the page opens. MagicPost refuses an expired link with "The reset link is invalid or has expired." Go back to the login page and ask for a new link.
A new MagicPost password must reach the minimum length written next to the New password: field, and the two fields must match. Otherwise the Reset my password form shows an error under the field and does not submit. When the two fields differ, the error under Confirm password: reads "Passwords do not match".
Change your MagicPost password while you are logged in
Open the profile menu at the bottom of the MagicPost sidebar and select Settings.
Go to the Security tab. This link opens the tab directly: app.magicpost.in/settings?tab=security.
On the Change password card, click Edit.
Fill in Current password:, New password: and Confirm password:, then click Save.
MagicPost asks for your current password before it saves the new one. If you no longer know the current password, log out and use Forgot your password? on the login page.
The Change password card of MagicPost shows a date next to Last changed:. This date is the last password change made from Settings. A password reset through the email link does not update it. On a MagicPost account whose password was never changed from Settings, the date shown is not the date of a password change.
Change the email address of your MagicPost account
Changing the email address of a MagicPost account is self-service. You do not need to contact support.
Open Settings and go to the Security tab.
On the Change email card, click Edit. The card shows the address your account uses today.
In the Change email address window, type the new address in New email address:, fill in Current password:, then click Confirm.
MagicPost sends a code to the new address. In the Confirm your new email address window, enter that code and click Confirm.
The new email address replaces the old one on your MagicPost account only once you enter the code sent to the new address, and you stay logged in. From then on you log in with the new address and your password. If the code does not arrive, check the spelling and click Edit address to correct it.
The code MagicPost sends to the new address works once and for a limited time, and MagicPost accepts a limited number of wrong codes. Past either limit, you start again from the Change email address window. Resend code sends a new code to the same address.
MagicPost asks for your current password before it sends a code to the new address. If you no longer know the current password, log out and use Forgot your password? on the login page first.
Log in with Google does not work with an email address set this way. After you change the email address of a MagicPost account in Settings, MagicPost refuses a Google login on the new address with "This email address has already been used."
MagicPost answers "Invalid email" when the new address is not accepted. The address may be misspelled, contain a plus sign, come from a disposable email service or from a domain MagicPost does not accept, or already belong to another MagicPost account. MagicPost shows the same message in every case.
If two-factor authentication is on, the Change email address window also asks for a Two-factor authentication code:. Enter the code from your authenticator app, or click Get a code by email. See how to set up two-factor authentication.
In a session opened on behalf of a member, for example when an organization admin opens the account of a member, the Change email card is disabled. Only the account holder can change the email address of a MagicPost account.
Accounts created with Google
A MagicPost account created with Google logs in through Google, so MagicPost does not let you edit its email address or password in Settings. In the Security tab, the two cards read Connected with Google and Password managed by your Google account, and their buttons are disabled. You log in with Log in with Google, and you change your password in your Google account.
FAQ
I did not receive the MagicPost password reset email. What should I check?
Check that you typed the address of your MagicPost account. MagicPost shows the same message whether or not an account uses the address you typed, and sends no email to an address without an account. If the address is right, look in your spam folder. If you signed up with Google, you can also log in with Log in with Google, without a password.
Why are Change email and Change password disabled on my MagicPost account?
Your MagicPost account was created with Google. Both cards then show Connected with Google and cannot be edited, because Google holds the email address and the password of that account.
Why is there no Change email or Change password card in the Security tab?
MagicPost hides both cards for a profile that an organization admin created with Quick add. This kind of MagicPost profile has no login of its own, so there is no email address or password to change. When an admin opens such a profile from the organization, the Security tab is not shown at all.
The Change email and Change password cards can also be missing on a MagicPost account whose email address contains a plus sign, although that account has a password. To change the password, log out and use Forgot your password? on the login page. To change the email address, email support@magicpost.in.
Does a password reset turn off two-factor authentication on MagicPost?
No. A MagicPost account with two-factor authentication still asks for a code at the next login, after the new password. Resetting the password never disables two-factor authentication.
Can I reuse my old email address for a new MagicPost account?
No. After you change the email address of a MagicPost account, the old address stays reserved for that account. You can switch back to it from the Change email card, but nobody can sign up with it.
