What types and styles of posts can I generate?

The MagicPost generator writes four types of LinkedIn posts: Actionable, Inspiring, Introspective and Promotional. Each post type has its own list of categories, and every type also offers Automatic category. Post generation is included in Creator, Agency, and Team and in the free trial. The Growth plan does not include it.

In a MagicPost organization, AI post generation also depends on the seat of each member: a member whose seat type does not include AI generation cannot generate posts. See how to manage seats.

Where to choose the type and the category

The post type and the post category are chosen in the MagicPost generator, in Standard mode. Open New post in the sidebar, select the Generator tab, and use the Post type and Post category lists at the top of the form. Each entry of the two lists comes with a short description.

Changing the post type in the MagicPost generator resets the category to the first category of the new type. In Standard mode, the examples shown in the topic field follow the selected category.

Actionable

The Actionable type of the MagicPost generator is for sharing your expertise or useful information. Its categories are:

• Explanation / Analysis

• Best practices

• Striking advice

• List of advice/rules/etc

• Useful resources

• Company sagas, Experience feedback and Tip, on subscribed accounts only

Inspiring

The Inspiring type of the MagicPost generator is for engaging and connecting with your audience. Its categories are:

• Challenges overcome

• Positive message

• Glowing portrait

• Success party

Introspective

The Introspective type of the MagicPost generator is for taking a stand or sharing your own experience. Its categories are:

• Personal reflection

• Difficulty experienced

• Thought-provoking

• Rant

• Who I am and Status report, on subscribed accounts only

Promotional

The Promotional type of the MagicPost generator is for highlighting an offer, a piece of content or a piece of news. Its categories are:

• Announcement

• Lead magnet

• Content sharing

• Product highlight

• Webinar promotion

Automatic category

Automatic category is the last entry of the category list for every post type in the MagicPost generator. Choose Automatic category when you do not know which category fits your topic.

Categories reserved for subscribed accounts

Five categories of the MagicPost generator are hidden on a free account, free trial included: Company sagas, Experience feedback and Tip in the Actionable type, Who I am and Status report in the Introspective type. They appear in the category list once the account has a subscription or belongs to an organization.

Beyond types and categories

The type and the category set what the post is about and how it is built. Three other MagicPost settings change how the post reads:

• Templates mode. A template replaces the type and the category and gives the post a fixed structure. See what post templates are.

Why do I see fewer categories than this article lists?

Five categories are hidden on a free MagicPost account, free trial included: Company sagas, Experience feedback, Tip, Who I am and Status report. The other categories are shown to every account that can open the generator.

Which post type should I pick when I am not sure?

Pick the type whose description matches your goal, then choose Automatic category. On a free account, the MagicPost generator marks the Actionable type as Recommended.

Do the type and the category apply when I generate from a URL or a file?

Yes. In Standard mode, the post type and the post category apply to the three sources of the MagicPost generator: Topic, URL and File.

Can I create my own post category?
