How can I generate a LinkedIn post from a topic?
|To generate a LinkedIn post from a topic in MagicPost, open New post, select the Generator tab, type your topic and click Generate a post. MagicPost AI post generation is included in Creator, Agency, and Team and in the free trial. The Growth plan does not include AI post generation.
In a MagicPost organization, AI post generation also depends on the seat of each member: a member whose seat type does not include AI generation cannot generate posts. See how to manage seats.
Where the MagicPost post generator is
The MagicPost post generator is a tab of the New post page. In the sidebar, the Create group has a New post entry, and the New post page has three tabs: Chat, Generator and Editor.
Generator is the form that turns a topic, a URL or a file into a LinkedIn post.
Editor is where you write a post yourself. See how to write and schedule a post in the editor.
Chat carries a Soon badge. Chat is coming soon and cannot be used yet.
Generate a post from a topic
In the MagicPost sidebar, click New post, then select the Generator tab.
Keep the mode on Standard. The other mode, Templates, writes the post from a template. See how to generate a post from a template.
Choose a Post type and a Post category. If you are not sure, choose Automatic category. The full list is in what types and styles of posts you can generate.
Keep the source on Topic and type your topic. The field shows rotating examples for the selected category. Click Try example to use the one on screen.
Open Settings to check the tone, emojis, length and language.
Click Generate a post. With the cursor in the form, Cmd + Enter on Mac or Ctrl + Enter on Windows does the same.
The MagicPost editor opens next to the generator form and the post is written into it. You can then change the text by hand, edit it with AI, add media, and schedule or publish it. When you generate several posts in a row, numbered buttons under the editor let you switch between them.
The Topic field of the MagicPost generator takes a simple topic or a longer text, such as rough notes or a draft. It is not meant for a prompt. To tell the AI how to write, use specific instructions.
Settings: tone, emojis, length, language
The Settings section of the MagicPost generator sets how the post is written:
Tone: Standard, Conversational, Engaging, Formal or Humorous.
Emojis: None, Moderate (1 to 4) or Many (4+).
Length: Very short, Short, Recommended or Long.
Expression: No preference, "I" or "We".
Language: the language of the post. See which languages MagicPost supports.
Formality and Gender: shown when the post language is French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, German or Dutch.
MagicPost saves each generator setting to your account as soon as you change it, so the next generation starts from the same values. The same settings are in the Knowledge base, under How you write, then Settings.
Writing style
The button at the top right of the MagicPost generator controls the writing style. Without an imported style, the button reads Add a style. With an imported style, the button shows the profile picture and first name, and opens a menu where you switch the style on or off and choose Inspired or Faithful.
An active writing style adds options to the MagicPost generator settings: a tone named after the imported profile, the Adapted to writing style emoji option, and a length that follows the posts of that profile. See how to import a writing style.
MagicPost applies an imported writing style to posts generated in Standard mode. In Templates mode, the template sets the style of the post and the imported writing style is not applied.
Advanced options of the generator
The Advanced options section of the MagicPost generator lists six options. Click an option to configure it, and use the switch at the end of its line to turn it on or off. When you hover over a line, a pin appears: Pin under the topic moves the option right under the topic field, and Unpin sends it back.
Humanizer
Humanizer reduces AI-sounding phrasing in the posts MagicPost generates. Humanizer has three intensity levels: True to your style, Balanced (the recommended one) and Maximum anti-detection. Humanizer lowers the most common markers of AI writing. It does not guarantee that a post is undetectable.
Web search
Web search lets MagicPost draw on recent web sources so that the post stays accurate. Web search has two modes. In Automatic, the recommended mode, the AI searches only when the topic needs recent or verifiable data. In Always, MagicPost runs a web search for every Standard generation from a topic.
MagicPost web search only runs for a Standard generation from a topic. It does not run when the source is a URL or a file, or in Templates mode. Data that you put in your topic keeps priority over what the web search finds.
AI context
AI context decides whether the MagicPost generator uses the context information of your account: your profile, summary, audience and offer. Click the line to open AI context information, which has five tabs: Summary, Audience, Offer, My story and Files. Turn the switch of the AI context line off to generate without your context information.
The Files tab of AI context lists the documents of your MagicPost knowledge base. It has its own switch, Use the files for this generation, which is separate from the AI context switch. The AI context fields are the same ones as in the Knowledge base. See how to use the knowledge base.
Specific instructions
Specific instructions are writing rules that the MagicPost generator follows, either for one post or for every Standard generation. In Templates mode, MagicPost only applies the instruction for this post: saved instructions, rules from documents and brand guidelines are not applied. See how to use specific instructions.
Signature
Signature is a text that MagicPost adds at the end of generated posts while the option is on. Click the line, write your signature and save it. The signature is stored in your account, and the switch lets you leave it out of a generation without deleting it.
Custom hook
Custom hook is an opening sentence that you write yourself. MagicPost places it at the beginning of the generated post. The switch can only be turned on once a hook has been entered. Turn it off when you no longer want that opening sentence. MagicPost only uses the custom hook in Standard mode: in Templates mode, the Custom hook line stays visible but the hook is not used.
When MagicPost does not start the generation
MagicPost stops a generation before it starts in these cases. None of them is a technical issue: the account cannot generate a post at that moment.
Seat without AI generation. In a MagicPost organization, a member with a Growth seat sees a Creator Plan required banner on the Generator tab and a lock on Generate a post, as on the Growth plan. A member with an Analytics or Engagement seat has no New post entry in the sidebar. Only an administrator of the organization can change a seat type.
Free trial already used. When MagicPost has flagged a free account as a second account of someone who already had a free trial, clicking Generate a post opens a Free trial already used window with a View plans button.
Growth plan. New post opens on the Editor tab. The Generator tab shows a Creator Plan required banner and a lock on Generate a post. Clicking the button opens an upgrade prompt.
Free trial ended. Generate a post carries a lock. Clicking it opens a Your free trial has ended window with a link to the plans.
No posts left. When the post allowance of the account is used up, MagicPost shows You have used all your free posts.
LinkedIn not connected. On a free account, MagicPost asks you to connect your LinkedIn account after your first post or first few posts, depending on your country.

FAQ
Do I need to write a prompt to generate a post?
No. The MagicPost generator needs a topic, or a longer text such as notes or a draft. The post type, the category, your settings and your writing style do the rest. Writing rules go in Specific instructions, not in the topic.
Can I choose the AI model that writes my post?
No. The MagicPost generator does not offer a choice of AI model. The settings you control are tone, emojis, length, expression and language, plus the advanced options.
Why is there no Web search line in my advanced options?
The Web search line only appears on accounts that can generate posts. It is hidden on a free account whose trial has ended and on the Growth plan. Post generation is included in Creator, Agency, and Team.
Which generator options does Templates mode ignore?
In Templates mode, MagicPost does not apply the Length setting, the imported writing style, saved instructions, rules from documents, brand guidelines, the custom hook or Web search. Are my generator settings kept from one post to the next?
Yes. MagicPost saves the Settings values, the switches of the advanced options and the pinned options to your account. The topic itself is not saved in the form: it is cleared when you reload the page. The text of the custom hook, the instruction for this post and the Use the files for this generation switch are not saved either: reloading the page resets them.
