How to use the calendar to plan your LinkedIn posts
The MagicPost Calendar shows your scheduled and published LinkedIn posts on their dates, by month or by week. From the calendar you create a post on a given day, schedule an existing draft, note an idea, and move a scheduled post to another day. The Calendar is included in Growth, Creator, Agency, and Team, and in the free trial.
Scheduling as a feature is presented on the LinkedIn post scheduling page. This article explains the calendar screen itself.
What the MagicPost calendar shows
Click Calendar in the MagicPost sidebar. Each day shows the posts scheduled for that day, the posts published on that day, and the ideas you noted on it. Drafts have no date, so they are not on the calendar: they are in the Drafts tab of the Posts page.
The top of the MagicPost calendar has four controls.
The arrows and Today. The arrows move to the previous or next period, and Today comes back to the current date.
The view selector. Choose Month or Week. The calendar opens on the month view.
The sync button. The button with two circular arrows is named Sync the latest posts. It fetches your latest posts from LinkedIn.
The Weekend switch. On a phone, the month view hides Saturday and Sunday. The Weekend switch under the calendar shows them again. This switch only exists on a phone.
Create, schedule or note an idea from a day
Click an empty area of a day in the MagicPost calendar, today or later. A menu opens with three actions.
Create a post opens an empty post in a side panel, with that day already selected in the scheduling panel. Write the post, set the time, then click Schedule post.
Schedule a post opens the list of your existing posts, with a search field and a filter by status. Pick the post, then schedule it on that day.
Insert an idea opens a note for that day. Write the idea and click Save.
In the month view of the MagicPost calendar, the menu does not open on a day in the past. In the week view, the menu opens on any day, and the scheduling panel still does not let you schedule a post on a past date. The scheduling steps and the options of the time field, including Recommended times, are in how to schedule a LinkedIn post.
Open and move a post on the calendar
Click a post in the MagicPost calendar to open it in the side panel. A scheduled post opens with its editor and its scheduling panel. A published post opens with its metrics.
To move a scheduled post, drag its card to another day. MagicPost keeps the time of the post and confirms with "Post moved to", followed by the new date. Drop the post on a day where that time is still ahead. The MagicPost calendar accepts a drop on a past day, or on today after the time of the post, and MagicPost does not publish a post whose scheduled time is already behind. A published post cannot be moved: MagicPost answers "You can't move a published post". An idea can be dragged to another day in the same way.
Ideas on the calendar
An idea on the MagicPost calendar is a short note pinned to a day. It is not a post, and MagicPost never publishes it. Click the idea to edit its text. Its menu has two actions.
Convert to post deletes the idea and creates a draft with its text. MagicPost warns you that the new draft is not scheduled: you have to schedule it to see it on the calendar again.
Delete removes the idea.
Posts published directly on LinkedIn
A post that you published on LinkedIn without MagicPost appears on the MagicPost calendar once MagicPost has fetched it. Click the Sync the latest posts button to fetch your latest posts now. The button shows a progress percentage while the sync runs.
Marks you can see on a calendar card
A red triangle. The post failed to publish, or it contains a mention that LinkedIn cannot tag. Hover over the triangle to read the reason. See why a post did not publish.
A check button on a scheduled post. The post is scheduled with Approve later on, and MagicPost will not publish it yet. Click the button, named Approve post, to let MagicPost publish it at its time.
A repost icon. The post is a repost of one of your published posts. See how to recycle a LinkedIn post.
What the MagicPost calendar does not do
The calendar does not show drafts.
The calendar does not let you move or unschedule a published post.
The calendar has no hour grid. A day lists its posts, and the time of each post is set in the scheduling panel.
This article does not cover approval mode, which organizations use to have posts approved before publication and which adds its own controls to the calendar.
FAQ
How do I switch the MagicPost calendar from the month view to the week view?
Use the view selector at the top right of the calendar and choose Week or Month. The week view shows seven days side by side on a computer, and fewer days at a time on a phone.
Can I hide weekends on the MagicPost calendar?
Only on a phone. In the month view on a phone, MagicPost hides Saturday and Sunday, and the Weekend switch shows them. On a computer, the calendar always shows the seven days.
When I move a post to another day, what happens to its time?
The time stays the same. MagicPost moves the post to the new day and keeps the hour and the minutes it had. To change the time, open the post and use the scheduling panel. A post dropped on a past day is not published.
A post I published directly on LinkedIn is missing from the calendar. What should I do?
Click Sync the latest posts at the top of the MagicPost calendar. MagicPost fetches your latest LinkedIn posts, and the missing post appears on its publication date.
Why does nothing happen when I click a day in the past?
You are in the month view of the MagicPost calendar, where the menu of a past day does not open, because MagicPost cannot schedule a post in the past. In the week view, the menu opens on any day, and the scheduling panel refuses a past date. In both views, you can still click a post published on a past day to open it.
I converted an idea to a post and it left the calendar. Where is it?
The post is in the Drafts tab of the Posts page. Converting an idea creates a draft without a date. Open the draft and schedule it to put it back on the MagicPost calendar.
