How do you use the MagicPost hook generator?
|The MagicPost hook generator writes opening lines for your LinkedIn posts. The Hooks page has three tabs: Generate creates hooks from a topic or from one of your posts, Library stores the hooks you keep, and Creators shows hooks from LinkedIn creators that you can adapt. The hook generator is included in Creator, Agency, and Team, and in the free trial. The hook generator is not included in the Growth plan.
In a MagicPost organization on the Agency plan, access to the hook generator also depends on the seat type. A member on a Growth, Analytics or Engagement seat does not have the hook generator: see everything in the Agency plan.
To open the hook generator, click Hooks in the MagicPost sidebar, under Create. MagicPost presents the tool on the LinkedIn hook generator page.
Generate: create hooks
On the Generate tab of the MagicPost Hooks page, type your topic in What are you writing about?
Optional: pick a hook type under the field, Story, Teasing, Question, Number or Scene. With Auto, MagicPost chooses.
Click Generate hooks. MagicPost returns a batch of hooks.
On the hook you prefer, click Generate a post. MagicPost opens the post generator with your topic and the hook filled in.
To rewrite the opening of a post you already have, use From a post on the Generate tab of the MagicPost hook generator. The From a post button is shown on a desktop screen only, not on a phone. Pick a draft or a scheduled post, click Generate hooks, then click Use in this post on a hook. The step-by-step guide is in how to find a post hook.
The settings icon in the topic field of the MagicPost hook generator opens your AI settings and writing style, so the hooks follow the same voice as your posts.
Library: keep and reuse hooks
The Library tab of the MagicPost Hooks page holds the hooks you saved. A hook enters the library in three ways.
From the Generate tab: the bookmark icon Save to my library on a generated hook.
From the Creators tab: the same bookmark icon on a creator's hook.
By hand: Add a hook stores a hook you wrote or found yourself.
The sidebar of the MagicPost hook library sorts hooks into All, Generated, My hooks and Creators. Above the hooks, a search field and the hook type chips filter the list.
On a hook of the MagicPost library, Generate a post opens the post generator with that hook, and the copy icon puts the hook in your clipboard. The options menu removes a generated hook from the library, adds or removes a favorite, or deletes the hook. Deleting a hook is permanent.
Creators: adapt a hook that worked
The Creators tab of the MagicPost Hooks page lists hooks taken from posts of LinkedIn creators. Each hook shows the creator, the reactions the post received and the creator's follower count.
In the sidebar, pick a creator, or stay on All creators. The Creator language menu changes the language of the creators shown.
Narrow the hooks with the search field and the hook type chips.
On a hook, click Adapt to my voice.
In the Adapt this hook window, type your topic, then click Adapt to my voice again.
MagicPost writes several versions of the creator's hook on your topic, in your voice, and lists them under Your versions. On each version, Generate a post opens the post generator and the bookmark icon saves the version to your library. View the original post opens the creator's post on LinkedIn.
You cannot add a creator of your choice to the MagicPost Creators tab. The tab only lists the creators that MagicPost provides.
How hook generations are counted
MagicPost counts hook generations, not individual hooks. One batch of hooks is one generation, and one adaptation of a creator's hook is one generation. Saving, copying or adding a hook by hand does not use a generation.
During the free trial, a gauge at the top of the MagicPost Hooks page shows the generations you used. When an account reaches its limit, MagicPost shows a message above the topic field and disables Generate hooks.
FAQ
Which plans include the hook generator?
The MagicPost hook generator is included in Creator, Agency, and Team, and in the free trial. The Growth plan does not include the hook generator: the Hooks entry of the sidebar shows a lock, and the page asks you to upgrade. In a MagicPost organization on the Agency plan, a member on a Growth, Analytics or Engagement seat does not have the hook generator. A subscriber of a former plan will find what that plan includes in the article about the Analytics and Starter plans.
MagicPost says "Hook generation is available on paid plans". Why?
Your MagicPost account is free and its trial has ended. Hook generation then requires one of these plans: Creator, Agency, and Team.
Why did a generated hook disappear from my library?
A generated hook stays in the MagicPost library only while it is saved. Remove from library, or a second click on the bookmark icon of the Generate tab, takes it out. The hook stays in the batch where it was generated, on the Generate tab.
Does adapting a creator's hook copy the creator's text?
No. Adapt to my voice rewrites the hook on your own topic and in your writing style, keeping the mechanism that makes the original work. The creator's exact text is only saved if you click the bookmark icon on the creator's hook.
