How to connect LinkedIn and renew your LinkedIn connection
You connect your LinkedIn account to MagicPost in Settings, under the LinkedIn tab. LinkedIn limits how long each connection stays valid, so the connection has to be renewed before its expiry date. Connecting LinkedIn is possible on every MagicPost account. Scheduling and publishing are included in Growth, Creator, Agency, and Team.
MagicPost emails a renewal link ahead of the expiry date of the LinkedIn connection. Renewing through that link disconnects nothing and keeps your scheduled posts. MagicPost sends this reminder only to accounts on a paid plan or in an active organization, that used MagicPost recently or have a post scheduled. Other MagicPost accounts get no email and renew the LinkedIn connection from the app.
How to connect LinkedIn to MagicPost
Open the profile menu at the bottom of the MagicPost sidebar and select Settings, then go to the LinkedIn tab. This link opens the tab directly: app.magicpost.in/settings?tab=linkedin.
On the LinkedIn connection card, click Connect LinkedIn. MagicPost opens a window titled "Connect your LinkedIn account to continue". Click Connect LinkedIn in that window.
Log in to LinkedIn in the LinkedIn window that opens and accept the access request.
MagicPost then asks "What type of LinkedIn account do you want to connect?" Click the card with your name, labeled Connect my personal account, to finish. A Company page card is added when you administer a LinkedIn company page.
MagicPost shows the "What type of LinkedIn account do you want to connect?" step to every account, with or without a company page. The LinkedIn connection is complete only after you click a card, so do not stop after the LinkedIn window.
Once LinkedIn is connected, the card shows Logged in as: followed by the name of the profile or page. If the LinkedIn window does not open, MagicPost says "Your browser blocked the LinkedIn window. Allow pop-ups for this site, then try connecting again." For company pages, see how to publish on a company page.
The way MagicPost connects to LinkedIn is presented on the safe LinkedIn connection page.
Why a LinkedIn connection expires
The limit comes from LinkedIn, not from MagicPost. The notice MagicPost shows reads "LinkedIn caps every connection at 12 months." Using MagicPost every day does not push the date back. Only a renewal, which is a new authorization on LinkedIn, starts a new period.
Until the expiry date, a MagicPost account shows LinkedIn as connected and works normally. After the date, MagicPost can no longer publish or schedule posts for that LinkedIn account until the connection is renewed.
How to renew from the reminder email
Before the expiry date, MagicPost sends reminder emails titled "Your connection to LinkedIn expires on" followed by the date. Open one and click Renew my connection to LinkedIn.
The link opens a MagicPost page named Renew your connection to LinkedIn. You do not need to log in to MagicPost to use it.
Click Renew my connection to LinkedIn and log in to LinkedIn in the window that opens, with the same LinkedIn account as before.
If MagicPost shows Choose your profile, pick the same profile or company page as before.
The page confirms with LinkedIn connected. You can close it.
Renewing through the MagicPost email link does not disconnect anything. Your scheduled posts stay scheduled. The renewal link works once and stops working after a while: an old link shows Link expired.
How to renew from the MagicPost app
MagicPost refuses to schedule a post for a date after the expiry date of your LinkedIn connection. The app says "Your connection to LinkedIn expires on" the date, "before the chosen date. Renew it to schedule beyond that." and opens the LinkedIn connection window. Click Connect LinkedIn, log in to LinkedIn, then pick the same account when MagicPost asks "What type of LinkedIn account do you want to connect?" MagicPost renews the connection, then resumes the scheduling you started.
You can also renew from Settings, in the LinkedIn tab: click Disconnect on the LinkedIn card, then Connect LinkedIn, and pick the same account at the end. Reconnect right away. While LinkedIn is disconnected, MagicPost cannot publish your scheduled posts.
What happens if the connection is not renewed in time
A MagicPost post that comes due after the LinkedIn connection has expired is not published. The post is marked as failed with Reconnection required. Reconnect LinkedIn from Settings, then publish the post again: see why a post did not publish.
Renewals in an organization, for admins
In a MagicPost organization on the Agency or Team plan, admins follow the LinkedIn connection of the accounts they manage from the admin view.
Who gets the reminder email. For a member of an agency who is not an admin, and for a profile created with Quick add, MagicPost sends the reminder to the owner of the organization, not to the member. The email contains the renewal link to pass on.
The badge in the LinkedIn column. On the Members page of the admin view, named Accounts for an agency, MagicPost shows Expires on with the date when a managed connection is close to its expiry, then Connection to LinkedIn expired. Click the badge to copy a renewal link and send it to the person.
Which accounts show the badge. Profiles created with Quick add, members in approval mode, and every non-admin member of an agency. Admins and the owner renew their own connection from the email or from Settings.
A link for any member. The menu of a member row has Link to connect to LinkedIn, which copies a connection link for that member.
The person who receives a MagicPost connection link opens it without a MagicPost login and connects LinkedIn in a few clicks. When you schedule a post for a member whose connection expires before the chosen date, MagicPost refuses and tells you to send a renewal link. For the admin view, see the admin view.
FAQ
Do I lose scheduled posts or data when I renew my LinkedIn connection in MagicPost?
No. A renewal through the MagicPost email link or through the connection window keeps the account connected the whole time. Your scheduled posts and your MagicPost data stay as they are.
My MagicPost account shows LinkedIn as connected, so why is scheduling refused?
The connection is still valid today, but it expires before the date you chose for the post. MagicPost shows the expiry date in the message. Renew the connection, then schedule the post again.
I did not receive the MagicPost renewal reminder. Why?
MagicPost sends the renewal reminder only to accounts on a paid plan or in an active organization, that used MagicPost recently or have a post scheduled. A free account gets no reminder, and neither does a paid account that has not been used lately and has no upcoming scheduled post.
When the reminder is sent, MagicPost sends it to the email address of the account. In an agency, and for a profile created with Quick add, the reminder goes to the owner of the organization instead of the member. You do not need the email to renew: use the steps for renewing from the MagicPost app.
Why does MagicPost show "Free trial already used" after I connect LinkedIn?
The LinkedIn profile you connected is already linked to another MagicPost account. On an account without a paid plan, MagicPost then shows "Free trial already used" and does not open a second free trial. Click View plans to subscribe, or Later to close the window. For how the MagicPost trial works, see Is MagicPost free, can I try it, and how much does it cost?
The MagicPost renewal link says "Link expired". What should I do?
Ask the person who sent you the link for a new one. An organization admin copies a new link from the Members page of the admin view. If you have your own MagicPost login, you can also reconnect LinkedIn from Settings, in the LinkedIn tab.
How do I switch MagicPost to another LinkedIn profile or to a company page?
Open Settings, go to the LinkedIn tab and click Disconnect on the LinkedIn card. Then click Connect LinkedIn and choose the other profile or the company page. A MagicPost account is connected to one LinkedIn identity at a time.
I do not have the LinkedIn login of the account I am setting up. How do I connect it?
In a MagicPost organization, the LinkedIn card of an account that is not connected shows Copy a connection link under the Connect LinkedIn button. Copy the link and send it to the person who holds the LinkedIn login. That person connects LinkedIn from the link, without a MagicPost login.
