How can I generate a LinkedIn post from a file? (PDF, Word, image, audio, video)
|MagicPost can generate a LinkedIn post from a file: upload a document, an image, an audio file or a video in the File source of the generator, and MagicPost extracts the content and writes a post from it. Generation from a file is included in Creator, Agency, and Team and in the free trial. The Growth plan does not include AI post generation.

Which files MagicPost accepts
The info icon in the drop zone of the MagicPost generator lists the compatible files:
Documents: .pdf, .docx, .txt, .md, .csv. The older Word format .doc is not accepted.
Images: .png, .jpg, .gif, .webp, .heic, .heif, .avif. MagicPost describes the image and reads any text in it.
Audio: .mp3, .wav. MagicPost transcribes the recording, then writes the post.
Video: .mp4, .mov, .avi. MagicPost only keeps the audio track of a video. What is said is used, what is shown on screen is not.
The MagicPost generator takes one file per generation. The maximum file size is displayed in the drop zone.
Generate a post from a file
In the MagicPost sidebar, click New post, then select the Generator tab.
Choose the mode. In Standard, choose a Post type and a Post category. In Templates, choose a template.
Select the File source, next to Topic and URL.
Drop your file in the zone, or click the zone to pick one. The Recent button lists the last files you generated a post from, so you can reuse one without uploading it again.
Optional: fill in Instruction for the AI to say what the post should focus on, for example "Pull out the standout numbers from the study".
Open Settings to check the tone, emojis, length and language, then click Generate a post.
While MagicPost uploads and reads the file, the Generate a post button shows a loader. The MagicPost editor then opens with a status line before the text appears. A long PDF, an audio file or a video takes longer than a topic, because the content has to be extracted before the post is written. What "Insufficient content" means
MagicPost stops the generation with an Insufficient content message when the file gives too little to write from. The message says which case applies:
A PDF without enough text. MagicPost asks for a PDF with readable text, not only images.
A Word, text, Markdown or CSV file that is too short. MagicPost asks for a file with more content. A Word document whose content sits in tables falls in this case, because MagicPost reads the paragraphs of a .docx file and not its tables.
An image from which MagicPost could extract nothing. MagicPost asks for an image with visible text.
An audio file or a video without speech. MagicPost needs spoken words to transcribe.
If the file cannot be fixed, copy its key points and generate the post from the Topic source of the MagicPost generator instead.
Scanned PDFs and very long documents
MagicPost reads a scanned PDF with text recognition only when the document is short and light enough. Above that limit, MagicPost reads the text embedded in the PDF and nothing else. A long scanned PDF, which is made of pictures of pages, then returns no content. Split the scan into shorter files, or use a PDF exported from the original document.
MagicPost also caps the amount of text it keeps from a very long document. If the part you need is far into a long file, extract those pages into a separate file before uploading it.
What generating from a file does not do
Generating a post from a file in MagicPost does not attach the file to the post. Generating from a PDF writes a post about the PDF. To publish a document, an image or a video with the post, add it as media in the editor.
Generating a post from a file in MagicPost does not run a web search. MagicPost web search only runs for a generation from a topic.
Generating a post from a file in MagicPost does not combine several files. One generation reads one file.
FAQ
Can I generate a post from a Word document?
Yes, from a .docx file. MagicPost reads the paragraphs of a .docx file. Text placed in tables is not read. The MagicPost generator also accepts .txt, .md and .csv files. The older .doc format is not accepted: save the document as .docx or as PDF first.
Is there a page limit on PDFs?
Not for a PDF that contains real text: MagicPost reads its text whatever the number of pages, up to a cap on the amount of text kept. A scanned PDF is different: MagicPost only reads it when it is short and light enough.
Can I upload several files for one post?
No. The MagicPost generator takes one file per generation. Merge your content into one file, or generate one post per file.
Can I get several posts out of the same file?
Yes. Reselect the file with the Recent button and change the instruction each time, for example one post per finding of a report. A file that MagicPost has already read is processed faster.
Does MagicPost keep the files I upload?
Yes. MagicPost stores the files uploaded to the generator, which is what makes the Recent list possible. The Recent list only shows the latest files linked to posts that still exist: deleting the posts generated from a file removes the file from the list. The generator has no button to delete a stored file. To have a stored file removed, contact MagicPost support.
