How to add, remove and reassign seats

In a MagicPost organization, a seat is the place of one member or one client account. An administrator changes the number of seats with Add or remove seats, on the member list of the admin view. Seats exist on the Team and Agency plans. For the price of a seat or of a pack, see everything in the Team plan and everything in the Agency plan.

The Agency and Team plans do not sell seats the same way. On the Agency plan, MagicPost bills each seat and you add or remove seats one by one. On the Team plan, MagicPost sells packs of seats and you move from one pack to another. A Team subscription that is still billed per seat follows the Agency steps.

Where to see the seats of your MagicPost organization

In the MagicPost sidebar, click Admin view, then Members (Accounts in an agency organization). The banner at the top of the page shows how many seats are assigned out of your total, with Add or remove seats on the right.

MagicPost counts a seat for every member who holds one, including a person whose invitation is still pending. An administrator without a seat is not counted. When every seat is assigned, Add a member opens No seats available instead of the form.

How to add seats on the Agency plan

  1. On the MagicPost member list, click Add or remove seats. The Manage seats window opens.

  2. Click the plus button to raise the number of seats.

  3. Read the Charged today card, then click the button that adds the seats.

When you add seats during a billing period, MagicPost charges a prorated amount right away, for the days left until your renewal date. The Charged today card shows that amount, with tax when it applies, before you confirm. Your renewal date does not move.

The seat selector of MagicPost stops at the largest number of seats you can buy on your own. Beyond it, the window shows Need more seats? and a button to book a call with the MagicPost sales team.

How to change your seat pack on the Team plan

  1. On the MagicPost member list, click Add or remove seats.

  2. Choose another pack in the selector at the top of the window, which shows your current pack.

  3. Click Pay and change pack for a larger pack, or Confirm the change for a smaller one.

A larger MagicPost seat pack applies right away, and you pay the prorated amount until your next billing date. A smaller pack also applies right away: MagicPost charges nothing, and the amount you overpaid is credited on your next invoices.

MagicPost refuses a smaller seat pack while more members hold a seat than the pack contains. The message reads Your organization has more members than this pack allows. Remove members before switching to a smaller pack. The pack window has no list of members to remove: free the seats from the member list first, then change the pack.

For the largest packs, MagicPost shows This pack is set up with our team: get in touch. instead of a payment. A flat-price subscription that MagicPost cannot change in self-serve shows Your plan doesn't allow adding seats directly, with a button to contact sales.

How to remove seats on the Agency plan

  1. On the MagicPost member list, click Add or remove seats.

  2. Click the minus button to lower the number of seats.

  3. If MagicPost lists members, select the ones to remove from the organization.

  4. Click Remove seats, or Confirm deletion when members are removed with the seats.

MagicPost only lists members when the seats you remove are in use. You must select as many members as the seats that are missing, and the organization owner cannot be selected. A member removed this way leaves the organization.

MagicPost charges nothing when you remove seats, and the lower number of seats is billed from your next renewal. The removed seats leave your MagicPost organization right away, although they are paid until the renewal date. To keep using a seat until then, remove it shortly before the renewal.

MagicPost does not let an organization go below its minimum number of seats: the minus button stops there.

How to give a seat to someone else

A MagicPost seat is not tied to a person. To reassign a seat, remove the member who holds it, then add the new member: the seat is free as soon as the first member is removed. See working in a team and adding users.

MagicPost limits how many members an organization can remove in a day. Once the limit is reached, MagicPost refuses the removal until the next day.

Removing a member does not move their MagicPost account to the new person. The new member starts with their own account and their own LinkedIn connection.

MagicPost also frees a seat without removing anyone. An administrator can be added without a seat, with Assign a seat turned off. The organization owner can release their own seat with Use a seat, in the three-dot menu of their own row.

Seat types on the Agency plan

The standard seat of a MagicPost organization is the Creator seat, with full access. MagicPost also has specialized seat types for accounts that need only a part of the product:

  • Growth: analytics, engagement, leads and publishing without AI.

  • Analytics: statistics and calendar.

  • Engagement: engagement only.

Specialized seat types are not available by default. The MagicPost team turns them on organization by organization, on request: use the contact link at the end of this article. A seat type is not a plan. The Analytics seat type is unrelated to the former Analytics plan, described in the Analytics and Starter plans.

Once seat types are on for your MagicPost organization, you choose a Seat type when you add an account. A row on a specialized seat shows its seat type, and a Creator row shows none. Change seat type appears in the three-dot menu of every member who holds a seat. The Manage seats window has one line per seat type, and you change one type of seat at a time.

When the seat type you want is full, MagicPost offers a swap: This type is full. Swap with: lets you exchange the seat types of two members. After a change of seat type, MagicPost can block a new change for a few days.

FAQ

Does a MagicPost administrator use a seat?

Only if you assign one. An administrator without a seat manages the organization and opens the members' accounts, and is not counted in the seats of your MagicPost organization.

Why does MagicPost tell me to contact sales instead of letting me add a seat?

MagicPost sends you to the sales team in these cases: you reached the largest number of seats sold in self-serve, your Team pack is one of the largest, or your subscription has a custom price that the seat window cannot change.

Am I refunded when I remove seats?

MagicPost issues no refund when you remove seats on the Agency plan: the seats are removed right away and the lower amount applies from the next renewal. A refund is decided case by case by the MagicPost support team. See can I get a refund for my MagicPost subscription.

Why does MagicPost say "Change unavailable" when I take my seat back?

MagicPost limits how often the organization owner can switch Use a seat back on. After a recent change, wait before you try again, or contact the MagicPost support team.

Can a member buy seats?

No. Only an administrator of the MagicPost organization sees the member list and Add or remove seats.
