How to add a carousel or visual to a LinkedIn post

In MagicPost, you attach a carousel or a visual you created to a post with Add to a post, without downloading the file and uploading it again. MagicPost attaches a carousel as a PDF document and a visual as an image. Creating carousels and visuals is included in the Creator, Agency, and Team plans, and it is not included in the Growth plan.

On the Agency plan, creating carousels and visuals in MagicPost needs a standard Creator seat. The specialized Growth, Analytics and Engagement seats do not include it.

What MagicPost attaches to the post

A MagicPost carousel is attached as a PDF with one page per visible slide. Hidden slides and image slides that have no image are left out. Slides use a portrait format of 1080 by 1350 pixels. LinkedIn publishes that PDF as a document your readers swipe through.

A MagicPost visual made in the visual builder is attached as a single JPEG image. MagicPost produces no PDF for a visual.

Attach from the builder

The MagicPost builder shows the attach button at the top right of the screen. What it offers depends on where you opened the builder from.

You started from a post. In the MagicPost editor, click Add media, then Visual or Carousel under Create with AI. MagicPost opens the creation flow for that post, and the builder then shows a direct Add to my post button. One click attaches the carousel or the visual and brings you back to the post.

Next to Add to my post, the three-dot button of the MagicPost builder opens two other destinations: Add to a new post and Add to another post.

You started from the Media page. The MagicPost builder shows an Add to a post menu with two entries:

• New post creates a post and attaches the carousel or the visual to it.

• Choose an existing post lists your posts, then attaches the carousel or the visual to the one you pick. MagicPost leaves out of that list the published posts, the posts being published and the posts with a poll.

In every case, MagicPost opens the post with the media attached, ready to write, schedule or publish. A message confirms the result: "Carousel added to the post" or "Visual added to the post".

Attach from the Media page

You do not need to open the builder to attach a finished piece. On the MagicPost Media page, open the Carousels or Visuals tab, hover a card and click Add to a post. The same button is in the details panel of a carousel or a visual.

From the MagicPost editor, you can also pick an existing piece: click Add media, then Library, and open the Visuals or Carousels tab of the picker.

What happens to the media already on the post

A carousel or a visual attached with Add to a post replaces the media already on the MagicPost post. MagicPost asks first, with a Warning window: "This post already has media; they will be replaced by the carousel." Click Continue to replace, or Cancel to keep the post as it is.

A carousel is published as a LinkedIn document, and a document post holds nothing else. A MagicPost post cannot carry a carousel together with images or a video.

To add a visual next to images that are already on a MagicPost post, do not use Add to a post. Click Edit on the media of the post, then Add an image, and pick the visual in the Visuals tab.

Export the file

Attaching to a post is optional. To get the file, click Export in the MagicPost visual builder, or Export as PDF in the carousel builder.

MagicPost downloads the file to your device and saves a copy in your media library at the same time. A message confirms it: "Visual exported to your media library" or "Carousel exported to your media library".

When the attach or the export fails

A MagicPost carousel PDF can be too heavy, usually because of many slides or large images. MagicPost then stops and shows: "The PDF is too large, reduce the number of slides or images". Remove a few slides or lighten the images, then export or attach again.

When MagicPost cannot attach the media to the post, the error message carries a Retry button. If one image of a carousel cannot be loaded, MagicPost keeps the slide and warns: "Some images couldn't be included". When MagicPost leaves out an image slide that has no image, it warns: "Visual slides without images were skipped".

Can I attach a carousel and an image to the same post?

No. A MagicPost carousel is published as a LinkedIn document, and a document post holds one document and nothing else. Attaching a carousel replaces the images already on the post, after a confirmation.

Where does the exported file go?

Two places at once. Export and Export as PDF download the file to your device and save a copy in your MagicPost media library. You can reuse that copy later without exporting again.

Can I attach a carousel without opening the builder?

Yes. On the MagicPost Media page, hover a carousel or a visual and click Add to a post. You can also pick it from the editor, with Add media then Library.

Why is my post missing from the list when I choose an existing post?

MagicPost leaves out published posts, posts being published and posts with a poll. Remove the poll from the post first if you want the carousel or the visual on it. A repost cannot carry media either: on a repost, the MagicPost editor disables Add media.

Are carousels still in Beta?

The MagicPost Carousels tab and the Carousel entry under Create with AI, in the Add media menu of the editor, carry a Beta badge. The Visuals tab does not. You can publish what both tools produce.

Why are the creation tools locked on my plan?

Your plan does not include media creation. In MagicPost, creating carousels and visuals is included in the Creator, Agency, and Team plans. On Agency, it needs a standard Creator seat. If you are on the former Analytics or Starter plan, see the Analytics and Starter plans.
