What are post templates?
|A MagicPost post template is the text skeleton of a LinkedIn post: its hook, its structure and its rhythm. In the Templates mode of the generator, you pick a template, give a topic, and MagicPost writes a new post that follows the template. Generating a post from a template is part of AI post generation, included in Creator, Agency, and Team and open during the free trial.
What a MagicPost template contains
A MagicPost template is a title and a plain text. It has no hidden logic and no dynamic fields. In a template you write, the parts meant to change from one post to the next go between square brackets, for example: "The [number] mistakes that cost me [outcome]." The templates of the MagicPost library mark the same parts with curly braces.
MagicPost shows each part of a template written between square brackets or curly braces as a purple chip in the previews, so you can read the structure at a glance. In your own templates, you write the brackets yourself. MagicPost does not add them to a template for you.
A MagicPost template holds text only. It does not store an image, a carousel or a poll.
A template sets the form, your topic sets the content
A MagicPost template does not know what you want to say. You still give the generator a topic, a URL or a file, and the template decides the shape of the post around it. MagicPost does not generate from a template alone: without a topic, a URL or a file, the generation does not start.
Templates mode is the reverse of Standard mode in the MagicPost generator. In Standard mode, you choose a post type and a category, and MagicPost chooses the structure. In Templates mode, you choose the structure and MagicPost fits your topic to it.
Where MagicPost templates come from
The MagicPost template picker has up to three tabs, each with the number of templates it holds:
My templates: the templates you wrote, saved from a post, or duplicated from another tab. You can edit and delete them. See creating and organizing your own templates and how to turn a post into a template.
Team: the templates shared inside your MagicPost organization. This tab appears only when your organization has more than one member who has joined it. Pending invitations and profiles added without a MagicPost account do not count. Team templates are read-only. See sharing templates with your team.
Library: the templates written by the MagicPost team. They are read-only, and you can duplicate one to edit your own copy. See finding the right template in the library.
When you have no template of your own yet, the MagicPost template picker opens on the Library tab.
How to open the MagicPost templates
In the MagicPost sidebar, click New post, then open the Generator tab.
At the top of the generator, switch from Standard to Templates.
Click the Template field to open the template picker.

What MagicPost templates do not do
MagicPost does not turn a saved post into a template with brackets on its own. A post saved as a template keeps its exact text until you edit it.
In Templates mode, MagicPost does not apply the post length setting of the generator. The length of the generated post follows the template.
MagicPost has no screen to create a template type of your own. The type of a template is optional, and you choose it among the default types: Actionable, Inspiring, Promotional or Introspective.
FAQ
Which MagicPost plans include post templates?
Generating a post from a template is included in Creator, Agency, and Team, and in the free trial. The Growth plan does not include AI post generation, so on Growth a template cannot be turned into a post. On the Agency plan, only members whose seat type includes AI post generation can generate a post from a template. Creating and organizing templates, without generating, is open on Growth, Creator, Agency, and Team and during the free trial. See what the MagicPost plans include.
Does generating from a template cost more than a standard generation?
No. A generation in Templates mode counts exactly like a generation in Standard mode. MagicPost adds no extra cost for using a template.
Will all my posts sound the same if I use MagicPost templates?
No. The template drives the structure of the post. Your topic and your writing settings, such as language, tone, emojis and formal or informal address, drive the content and the voice. The Similarity setting of the generator decides how closely the post follows the template.
Can I generate a post from a template without giving a topic?
No. MagicPost needs a topic, a URL or a file in addition to the template. Without one of them, the generator shows a warning and does not start.
