How to use the engagement feed

The MagicPost engagement feed gathers the latest LinkedIn post of each profile you choose, so you can react and comment on those posts from MagicPost without opening LinkedIn. You group the profiles into lists. The engagement feed is included in Growth, Creator, Agency, and Team, and in the free trial. Your LinkedIn account must be connected to MagicPost.

The engagement feed is the Comment tab of the MagicPost Engagement page. The second tab, Reply, handles the comments received on your own posts: see how to reply to the comments on your posts. MagicPost presents both on the LinkedIn engagement feature page.

How to create your first list

  1. In the MagicPost sidebar, under Monitor, click Engagement.

  2. Click Create my first list of profiles.

  3. Give the list a name and an icon, then click Next.

  4. Add profiles: search by name, pick from the suggestion tabs, paste a LinkedIn profile URL, or click CSV to import a file. Then click Add profiles.

  5. Review the list and click Create my list.

A MagicPost engagement list holds a limited number of profiles. The list window of an existing list shows the count and the maximum next to Followed profiles. When a list is full, MagicPost greys out the profiles you could add, and Send to list shows List full for that list. A list that is over the limit shows Limit exceeded and cannot be saved until you remove profiles. To follow more people, create several lists.

The posts of a profile you just added to an engagement list do not appear in the MagicPost feed right away. MagicPost fetches the profile and its posts in the background, and the feed shows a loading state until they arrive.

How to import profiles from a CSV file

MagicPost can fill an engagement list from a file of LinkedIn profile URLs. The import is available when you create a list and when you edit one.

  1. Click CSV, next to the search field where you add profiles.

  2. Drop a .csv or .txt file. One column of LinkedIn profile URLs is enough.

  3. Under LinkedIn profiles column, check the column MagicPost detected, or pick another one, then click Continue.

  4. Click the import button, then Done.

The CSV import window of MagicPost shows how many spots are left in the list, and it never goes past the list limit. Rows that cannot be imported are listed under Skipped rows with the reason: duplicate in the file, already in this list, not a LinkedIn profile URL, or not found on LinkedIn.

Switch between your lists

The name of the open list sits at the top of the MagicPost engagement feed. Click it to open the menu of your lists, and click a list to show its posts. All lists shows the posts of every list together.

In the list menu of MagicPost, each list shows its number of profiles and your last interaction with its posts, for example Commented 2h ago or Liked 3d ago, with a green dot when that interaction is recent, an amber dot when it is older, and a red dot when it is a week old or more. No recent interaction means you have not liked or commented on a post of that list lately. The menu also lets you:

  • New list: create another list.

  • Reorder your lists: drag a list by its icon.

  • Find a list: a search field appears when you have many lists.

  • Manage a list with its three-dot menu: Manage members opens the list window, Rename changes the name and the icon, Delete list removes the list.

Next to the name of the open list in the MagicPost engagement feed, Manage this list opens the list window, and Synced 3h ago shows when you last synced the list yourself (see how the feed is refreshed below). On a narrow screen, both are icons. All lists shows the number of lists and profiles instead.

Add and manage the profiles of a list

The list window of MagicPost is titled Manage list followed by the name of the list, or Add profiles to followed by the name for a list that has no profile yet. It has two parts: the profiles to add on one side, and Followed profiles, the profiles already in the list, on the other. The cross on a followed profile removes it from the list, and the profiles you check are added to it: click Save to apply these changes.

  • Search: type a name or paste a LinkedIn profile URL. A result that is already in one of your lists says so, for example Already in this list.

  • Suggestion tabs: profiles that are not in your lists yet. For you proposes the people you interact with on LinkedIn, the people who comment on your posts, and profiles similar to yours. Leads proposes your leads that are not in a list yet, with access to the Leads module, and recommendations based on your ICP or, without an ICP, on a one-sentence description of your target. Team proposes the members of your MagicPost organization and, under Same company, the people who show the same company as you on LinkedIn. In an organization on the Agency plan, only admins see Team. Creators proposes active creators in a field close to yours.

  • Dismiss, at the bottom of a suggestion, removes that profile from your suggestions. Dismissed profiles move to the Dismissed tab, where Show again brings a profile back.

  • Send to list, on a suggestion or when you hover a followed profile, adds the profile to any of your lists right away, without Save and without closing the window. On a followed profile, the same menu removes it from the current list, applied with Save.

  • LinkedIn, next to the name of a profile when you hover it, opens the profile on LinkedIn.

  • Export, next to Followed profiles, downloads the followed profiles of the list as a CSV file with their name, headline and LinkedIn URL.

Read the feed

The MagicPost engagement feed has two views, switched with Grid and Feed at the top right. Feed, the default, shows the posts in one column with a navigation list on the side, and stacks the posts you already engaged with at the end. Grid shows the posts as cards.

The MagicPost engagement feed shows one post per profile: the latest post MagicPost holds for that profile. To read the earlier posts of a profile, use See all posts by [first name] in the three-dot menu of the post, or Profile focus in Settings. A plain repost of someone else's post and a post published in a LinkedIn group never appear in the engagement feed.

The Settings button of the MagicPost engagement feed controls what you see.

  • Profile focus: only the posts of one profile.

  • Sort posts by: Most recent, Most liked or Most commented.

  • Time range: All posts, Today's posts or This week's posts.

  • Visibility: Hide liked, Hide commented, Hide media, Show Leads badge, Show Commenter badge and Show hidden posts.

With Show Commenter badge turned on, a post of the MagicPost engagement feed shows a badge when its author has commented on your posts several times. The badge is on by default.

Hide liked and Hide commented apply to the Grid view. In the Feed view, MagicPost keeps engaged posts and moves them to the end. The feed settings icon of that view sets when a post counts as engaged: Liked and commented, Commented or Liked.

React and comment

From the MagicPost engagement feed, you react to a post with one of the LinkedIn reactions, and you write a comment that MagicPost publishes on LinkedIn under your name. To write a comment, click the Comment button at the bottom of a post: clicking the post itself does not open the comment editor. In the Feed view, the comment editor opens below the post. In the Grid view, Comment opens the post in a panel with the comment editor.

The MagicPost comment editor supports @ mentions, emojis, and an image or a GIF. Click Post comment to publish. Afterwards, Edit changes your comment and Delete removes it from LinkedIn too.

The three-dot menu of a post in the MagicPost engagement feed opens the profile on LinkedIn, shows all the posts of that profile with See all posts by [first name], changes the lists the profile belongs to with Edit engagement lists, and hides a post with No longer display this post.

Saved comments

The bookmark icon of the MagicPost comment editor opens Saved comments, your reusable comments. A saved comment can carry an image or a GIF. The Reply tab of MagicPost has its own, separate list of saved comments: a comment saved in the engagement feed is not listed there.

How the feed is refreshed

The MagicPost engagement feed is not real-time. MagicPost refreshes the profiles of your lists in the background, and the more regularly you open the Engagement page, the more often your profiles are refreshed. After several weeks without opening Engagement, MagicPost stops refreshing your lists until you come back.

To refresh an engagement list yourself, open that list (not All lists), click Synced next to its name, then Sync in the Sync the list? window. The sync runs in the background and can take a few minutes. Synced shows the time of your last sync only: background refreshes do not change it, and Never synced means you have never synced the list yourself. The window shows when the list was last updated and an estimated duration. After a sync, MagicPost imposes a short wait before the same list can be synced again, and shows the remaining time.

Set goals

MagicPost can track a goal of likes and comments, per day or per week. On a desktop screen, the goals card sits at the top of the Engagement page. If the card is hidden, click Goals to show it. The settings icon of the card opens the goal settings.

The Customize my goals window of MagicPost offers three presets, Basic, Moderate and Intensive, or your own numbers. The card then shows your progress as Today's goals or Weekly goals. Don't show goals hides the card.

Reports: Summary and Log

The Reports menu of the MagicPost goals card contains two exports of your engagement activity.

  • Summary opens the Engagement report, a visual report with your likes and comments over a period and your top engaged profiles. You choose the period, the chart series and the number of profiles, then download it as JPEG, PNG or PDF.

  • Log lists the comments you sent from MagicPost, By period or By profile. Download exports them as a CSV file.

Engagement and Leads

With Show Leads badge turned on, each post of the MagicPost engagement feed shows how well its author fits your ideal customer profiles. The badge relies on the Leads module: see what the Leads module is.

The three-dot menu of a post in the MagicPost engagement feed can contain Add to leads. Add to leads appears only when your account has access to Leads and at least one ICP is ready, and when the author of the post is not already a lead.

In the MagicPost engagement feed, Add to leads lists your ICPs. Picking an ICP adds the author to your leads and scores the profile against that ICP. The scoring spends one Leads credit when the profile gets at least a Medium fit. See how lead credits work.

FAQ

Can MagicPost write my comments with AI?

Not in the engagement feed: comments in the MagicPost engagement feed are written by you, and Saved comments let you reuse comments you wrote before. The free LinkedIn comment generator of MagicPost is a separate tool on magicpost.in and is not connected to the engagement feed.

Which plans include the engagement feed?

The MagicPost engagement feed is included in Growth, Creator, Agency, and Team, and in the free trial. On the Growth plan, the Reply tab is visible but fetching the comments of your own posts is locked. In an organization on the Agency plan, the seat type assigned to a member decides whether Engagement appears in that member's menu: see everything in the Agency plan. A subscriber of a former plan will find what that plan includes in the article about the Analytics and Starter plans.

Why is a recent post missing from my feed?

The engagement feed of MagicPost is refreshed in the background, not in real time, and it shows only the latest post of each profile. To fetch the latest posts, open the list and click Synced next to its name: the sync runs in the background and can take a few minutes. Check also the Settings button: a Time range or a Profile focus may be hiding the post.

Two kinds of posts never appear in the MagicPost engagement feed, even after a refresh: a plain repost of someone else's post, and a post published in a LinkedIn group.

Why can't I comment on a post?

LinkedIn refused the comment. The usual causes are comments turned off on the post or a deleted post. LinkedIn also refuses reactions and comments on a post published in a LinkedIn group, which is why MagicPost leaves group posts out of the engagement feed. An expired LinkedIn connection also blocks comments: see how to renew your LinkedIn connection.

MagicPost says I commented a lot today. Is something broken?

No. LinkedIn temporarily limits the number of comments an account can post, to prevent automated behavior. When LinkedIn applies the limit, MagicPost tells you, and you can resume the next day.

Can I create several lists?

Yes. Click the name of the open list at the top of the MagicPost engagement feed, then New list. Each list holds a limited number of profiles: the Followed profiles heading of the list window shows the count and the maximum.
